  • Jan's baby shower

When Jan and Michael break up officially, this causes Jan to rethink her life. At the end of Season 4, you find out that she is pregnant. The baby is not Michael's. It's not anyone but it came from a sperm bank. Michael wants to join Jan on some of the baby things and later convinces her to join the office for a baby shower for her. Even though Michael knows the baby is not his and Jan has said the baby is not his, on some level he thinks he is At least he thinks he will have a father like realtionship with Astrid. It's unusual name for the baby. It's kind of funny how everyone and not just Michael pronounces the name wrong. As Jan nears her delivery date, Michael prepares for it like any other dad would and has Dwight help him. That was the start of the episode and pretty funny way to start it. Jim explaining the connection of baby, Michael, and Dwight was pretty funny.

As it turns out when Jan comes to the office, she already had Astrid. This upsets Michael a bit. It also makes the party weird and yet funny. Michael tries adjust by making a connection to Astrid. He doesn't and this makes him more upset. The scenes with Michael talking about how much he likes babies and then holding the different babies was really sweet. Michael also treats Holly badly, partly due to spare Jan's feelings and partly due to any lingering feelings he has left for her. However because he likes Holly he tells her before the shower. Speaking of weird situations, Jim and Pam have a missed connection. This was just as they were calling each other a bad day. Up until this point their realtionship has been going smooth even with Pam going to New York. It didn't get too weird when they were calling each other. That was a nice story which was the same that they were telling. If you were uncomfortable with that situation with Jim and Pam, remember this is nothing compared what would happen later in the series. This may also be a sign of what I said for my review at the start of season 4. Great camera work with the phone cal between Jim and Pam.. What also mad this a good episode was at the end of the shower when Michael finally asked out Holly.moreless
  • Things go awry when Michael and his team organize a baby shower for Jan.

This is officially the worst 'Office' episode ever. I repeat - the worst office episode ever. For one reason, it wasn't funny though the writers have done their desperate best to fit in some lines here and there. I have always noticed that even the most mediocre episodes have some bit of balancing out. For instance, if Michael's part doesn't do well, there is always a Jim-Dwight sequence that makes up for it. And at the end of the day, most of us are happy. The highlight of this installment would include how most of us would have felt sorry for Michael. He continues to be a jerk, who no one cares about. The other characters apparently dwell in their own worlds, lending pretty much nothing to the main plot. I guess the writers are out of ideas. Its sad, seriously, very sad. I hope the show doesn't spiral down and get axed eventually.moreless

When I was watching this, I felt as if this show had lost it's way a bit. Does anyone really care about Jan & her baby? I felt like I was watching a drama series for some reason. From Jan telling Michael not to date Holly without giving explanation to Jim & Pam missing each other.

I think the only laugh out loud moment was Michael yelling at Phyllis or Jan singing about losing her virginity next to a church to her newborn baby, those were the only two scenes, the rest was just okay, not that much laughter from this episode.

Instead we've got drama that most of us fans don't even care about which wasn't the case in season 3 with the Jim and Pam thing, people cared about that, now here we are, years later, and Pam & Jim's plot is the most uninteresting.moreless
  • playtime is over!!!

good. not as good as the previous two episodes but still good. Jan has a baby named astird and michael isnt there to witness the birthing process. Dwight tests a 1200 dollar stroller to see if its indestructible, jan sings to a baby for a half hour, and pam and jim have the usual dramatic thing at the end. The whole stroller thing was funny as hell. And the watermelon birth is a classic office moment. Another funny moment is when jan sings to the baby and makes everybody watch for a half hour and she describes the afterbirth floating around in the tub she gave birth in. In conclusion, a good not great episodemoreless
  • So, so weird!

This is episode is probably the weirdest one in the series. Michael and Jan have a baby. Jan gives birth to the baby, but Michael is not there to see it, or "mark" the baby (Dwight tells Michael to mark the baby with a permanent marker right when Jen gives birth so that they know it's their baby). In the beginning of the episode, Dwight gives birth to a watermelon. They throw a baby shower for Michael, not knowing that Jan already gave birth. The gift for Jan and Michael from the office is a cheap baby stroller. Jen already owns a baby stroller that costs 1,000 dollars. Meanwhile, Dwight tests how durable Jen's baby stroller is.

Very great episode. Funny. I really reccomend it!moreless

  • QUOTES (6)

    • Michael: Jan Levinson is coming in today, and she is in the terminal stages of her pregnancy.

    • Michael: (to Phyllis) If I'm not mistaken, we gave you your wedding shower here. We all came into this room and gave you a golden shower.

    • Jim: (using diagram) Jan is about to have a baby with a sperm donor, and Michael is preparing for the birth of a watermelon with Dwight. Now, this baby will be related to Michael through... (draws question mark) delusion.

    • Stanley: I do not like pregnant women in my workspace. They are always complaining. I have varicose veins, too. I have swollen ankles, I'm constantly hungry. Do you think my nipples don't get sore, too? Do you think I don't need to know the fastest way to the hospital?

    • Michael: If a baby were President there would be no taxes, there would be no war, there would be no government, and things could get terrible. It would actually be a better screenplay idea than a suggestion.

    • Dwight: Babies are one of my many areas of expertise. Growing up, I performed my own circumcision.
