Michael tricks Jim and Pam into coming over to his condo for dinner by pretending there was a corporate-mandated overtime assignment at the office. As it is couples only, Andy and Angela are also invited, but Dwight is crushed that he is not also on the guest list.
Upon arrival, Jim and Pam feel a simmering of awkward tension between their hosts. They also find out that dinner won't actually be ready for another three hours, which horrifies them. Between Jan's snide comments about the carpet and Michael's digs at how much money things cost, the tension only mounts over the evening. When Andy and Angela show up, they play charades, but yelling quickly puts that game to a stop. Jan plays a CD with recordings made by her young, former assistant, Hunter, and she dances drunkenly to the music.
A few glasses of wine later, Jan tells the guests how Michael broke the sliding glass door by running through it, thinking he heard the ice cream truck. Dwight crashes the party, further inflaming the hosts; the yelling escalates to the point that the cops also crash the party, claiming they got a call about a domestic dispute.
The officers encourage Michael to spend the night elsewhere, so Dwight takes Michael to stay with him. A hungry Jim and Pam stop at a fast food place to get a burger; and Angela mashes her ice cream cone to the side of Andy's car after he tries to be affectionate and silly.
