For the pilot episode of this series, the writers chose to tackle a subject that pops up quite often in this series: man communicating with a being from another planet. A radio engineer makes contact with an alien being and converses
at length with him via the equipment he has assembled. One thing that should be remembered is that all aliens, on TV and in the movies, spoke fluent English.
After the engineer is dragged out of his recluse to go into town, the alien is fairly predictably teleported to earth by accident thanks to the ambitious nature of a new disc jockey. If you ask me, this is a prime thing to point out the next time you tell someone to turn down the volume or power........
Anyhow, this was a solid episode overall. It plays on people's obsession with what lies out in space and the fear of the unknown. Although the effects of radiation are a little downplayed ( superficial burn marks....ummm...no), the message that we are not alone rings true at the end.
