The Outsiders

Show Summary

Based on the award-winning book by S.E. Hinton and the film by Francis Coppola, comes the TV series of "The Outsiders". The story of the Curtis brothers, Darry, Soda Pop, and Pony Boy, struggling to make it as a family. According to Ponyboy, there's two kinds of people in the world: greasers and socs. A soc (short for "social") has money, can get away with just about anything, and has an attitude longer than a limousine. A greaser, on the other hand, always lives on the outside and needs to watch his back. Ponyboy is a greaser, and he's always been proud of it, even willing to rumble against a gang of socs for the sake of his fellow greasers--until one terrible night when his friend Johnny kills a soc. The murder gets under Ponyboy's skin, causing his bifurcated world to crumble and teaching him that pain feels the same whether a soc or a greaser. This classic, written by S. E. Hinton when she was 16 years old, is as profound today as it was when it was first published in 1967. From Producer FRANCIS COPPOLA and Writer/Director ALAN SHAPIRO comes the Fox network's acclaimed series, "THE OUTSIDERS."moreless

  • Eight months prior to the book, Ponyboy Curtis's mother and father were killed in a car accident. Now, his oldest brother, Darry, is guardian to him and Sodapop, his other older brother.moreless

This is an awesome book! If you have never read the book, or seen the movie, I highly suggest you go to the library and pick up the book right now! This is one of the best books I've ever read. S.E.Hinton is a wonderful author. So..read the book, then watch the movie! Both are just amazing! It shows people's struggle to belong in the 60's. This book will make you feel something. Sure, I thought it was only okay at first, but now I'm a die-hard fan. Th book is honestly one of the best books that I have ever read, and I'd like to thank my English teacher for making us read it during class last year.moreless
  • It was great

    9.2
This movie was great.I liked how there was action and lots of rumbles.I liked how these people expresed them selves.Ponyboy is cosidered a more calm nice charcter.Sodapop is more of a person who is like Pony calm and also understanding.Darrel was more of an aggresive person who is caring for his brothers but in a belligerent way.But after his dispute with Pony he is more like Soda until the end when he goes off on how Pony does in school. Two bit is like party animal who is loud and belligerent like Mrk from this book's seqeul.Steve is more of a rude person who is really cocky and show off type.Johhny is more of calm and shy person who dies.Dallas is like Two bit who gets into diputes and rumbles and then he dies for the cost robbery. But the show was great aswell.I liked how they actually based in the 60's of how that was the greasy era which tells how life in the sixties is like and how it was not hippies it was more greasy. But i love this movie and its great watch and you'll love it.moreless

Theres 3 brothers, who are Darry Curtis, Sodapop Curtis, and Ponyboy Curtis. After their parents died in carwreck, Darry now has to take care of his brothers by working at 2 jobs. Sodapop who dropped out of high-school because he was dumb, works at a gas station and is happy. Ponyboy who is a dreamer, likes to read books, watching sunsets, and doesn't like fighting too much. Night Ponyboy comes home late, Darry gets mad but doesn't mean to but hits Ponyboy which causes him to run out into the park with Johnny Cade (the gangs pet). The Socs come up in their mustang cars and Bob Sheldon trys to drown Ponyboy which leaves Johnny to take out his knife and winds up killing Bob, a soc. They get help from Dally Winston and the go to an old church in Windrixville to hide. Later on the church gets on fire and Johnny has to go to the hospital after 3 degree burns. Dally burns his arm by putting out the fire on Ponyboy's back. Then theres a rumble and Johnny dies and Dally gets emotional about it and he robs a grocery store and gets shot by the cops. Leaving at the ending, Ponyboy has to write a 5 page or more story for english and so Ponyboy starts this story with "The Outsiders."moreless
