The Panel (Ireland)

Show Summary

The Panel is a show which takes a satirical look at news stories which have broken over a weeks period. The Panel's Manifesto is as follows:

The Panel is a language through which all the following properties may be expressed: harmony, creativity, happiness, beauty, poetry, complexity, magic, humour, provocation and culture. The use of top quality performers and technical knowledge to prepare them properly are taken for granted. Comedy techniques, both classic and modern, are a heritage that the comedian has to know how to exploit to the maximum. Together with the classic ones, lighter jokes performing an identical function are now being used (waters, broths, consommés, clarified vegetable juses, nut milk, etc.). The performers are finished in the theatre by the serving staff. In other cases the audience themselves participate in this process. Collaboration with the brewing industry and the scientific world has brought about fundamental advances.

The show's favourite word is "Bolox"

A great show, hosted by Daire O Briain (i think that's how it's spelt!)

The panel's irreverant look at the week's news makes for pleasureable viewing, though I prefer it on monday nights than sundays. As well as this, they manage to get the most out of their guests by mixing some serious questions with some jokey and trivial ones, thus making the guest relax and join in the fun - it must be a relief for some of them to come on a talk show that's very different.

It's not that highbrow but it doesn't pretend to be, it's honest and above, hilariously funny.

Colin Murphy is my favourite (as well as Daire of course), his deadpan humour is delightful - and remember, as he said, watch out for the giant killer ladybirds!moreless
