A native of State College, Pennsylvania, Perine has been in and around theater since birth. His father, a staple in their local community theaters, reared his son on stage productions and had him performing by the age of five. Perine's love of acting kept him active throughout his childhood, performing in numerous community theater productions around Pennsylvania. His high school days were spent at Lake Forest Academy on the north shore of Chicago, where he was active in school productions while also working as an extra for numerous productions shooting in the city. After graduating from Pomona College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in film studies, Perine went on to receive a Master of Fine Arts degree in acting from the University of California, Irvine. Since graduating, Perine has remained active in film and television. His television credits include guest starring roles on "Bernie Mac," "E.R.," "Seinfeld," "The Practice," "Living Single" and "Mad About You." He was also a series regular on "Between Brothers" and "The Parent 'Hood," and had recurring roles on "The Drew Carey Show," "For Your Love" and "Providence." When not acting, Perine serves as lead vocalist and lyricist for his funk rock band, Birthday Suit. It was an English teacher who encouraged Love's comedic talents by promising him that if he behaved in class, he could have the last five minutes each day to perform. Performing in front of his peers prepared Love to work in local comedy clubs where he sharpened his routine before moving to New York after high school. At 19, Love was cast in an off-Broadway play entitled "Bitter Heart Midtown" at the Harlem National Black Theatre, a modern adaptation of Charles Dickens' "Great Expectations." His screen break came when director/actor Robert Townsend's assistant saw Love perform at a comedy club and recommended him for a role in "The Meteor Man." He is now recognized by filmgoers for his performances in films including "The Players Club," "Thin Line Between Love and Hate," "Fear of a Black Hat," "Friday," "Bebe's Kids" and "3 Strikes." Love is well known to television audiences for his popular portrayal of Wendell Wilcox on The WB's "The Parent Hood." Bianca Lawson, daughter of All My Children's Richard Lawson, was originally cast as Cordelia Chase in the spring of 1997 in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. She was actually cast in two television series at the same time, and both were prone to face cancellation. She turned down the role of Cordelia to star in Goode Behavior, a short-lived TV series that aired on UPN for a month. Producers of Buffy the Vampire Slayer called her back in late 1997/early 1998 for the role of Kendra, the Slayer that replaces Buffy after she has died. This further complicates things on the show, because now there are two Slayers instead of one fighting the forces of evil in Sunnydale. Of course, if Bianca would have taken the role of Cordelia she would have had steady work for the next eight years. A native of Lompoc, California, Wilson attended the advanced training program at the Pacific Conservatory of Performing Arts in Santa Maria, California, where he performed in such plays as "Hank Williams: King of Country Music," "Carousel," "Billy Budd," and "Keepsakes." He also studied at the prestigious American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco.
Beyond film and television, Wilson has been a recurring host on "Soul Train" and recently co-hosted the distinguished NAACP 2000 ACT SO Awards. The ACT SO Awards honor 1,000 gifted African-American high school students nationwide who excel in the performing and visual arts.
