  • The forever dilemma in one hour per week:

Another world hot spot and still no solutions; not even the kind where money can triumph over centuries of politics.

But it is about big people with small ideas, (or is it small people with big ideas?) and a strong desire to run contrary to human nature.

Without being preachy, this episode, while seeming to be specific, was in fact a generalization which laid bare the real battle and that battle did not (does not) take place in some remote region of the world but over the microphones of radio talk shows or cable news forums.

And as is most often the case when from afar, we try to dictate the "right" (or left?) way to approach a subject, the real subject becomes victim on the sacrificial altar of near-sighted if not blind idealism versus dogmatic moral certainty.

As I see it: human nature will win, life will remain unfair, and we'll have some pretty good TV to get us by. So, does that make me Teddy Rist, or the Talk Show guy? Hmmmm, "veddy interesting"...moreless

    • Whilst on the radio show, Teddy says that he never claimed to be a saint. Perhaps an in-joke to The Philanthropist being perceived to be like The Saint as well as the fact that prior to The Philanthropist he had been cast as The Saint for The Saint series that never went ahead. In actual truth the makers of The Philanthropist never promoted the series as being like The Saint so from this standpoint what Teddy said was not untrue.
