  • Undeniably, this is one of the best episodes of "The Powerpuff Girls"!

I'm pretty sure that at this point in the series, it started getting really bad, but this is still a good episode. In my opinion, "Candy is Dandy" is indeed one of the best episodes of the series. While the plot of the story did seem a little thin, and the episode had a lack of dialogue, the episode was pretty entertaining to watch. The girls acting really bubbly over the candy was a little bit freaky, but it was still cute to watch. The mayor is also in character as he's always been: lovable, goofy, obsessed with his hat. The main event that is central to the plot is the part where the girls convince Mojo to commit more crime so that they can get more candy, and they got to wear that cool jacket! They were even lined up vertically in the order I would have wanted to see them in! Mojo was also pretty smart finding out what gave them pleasure and stole the jar of candy from the mayor's office. The ending I felt was appropriate; the girls found out what wrong they caused and set things right by being honest with the mayor. The only thing in this episode that didn't make much sense was the overlong coat that the girls were wearing in the dark scene. I understand why they wore it, but where did they get the coat? Who did they steal it from? Who did they kill? An explanation would be nice, but not totally necessary.

That's all I gotta say for my review. "Catastrophe" wasn't all that interesting, but "Candy is Dandy" is definately the better one, and it has earned my reccomendation. I'm sure you won't regret it.moreless
  • The girls get high off candy.

Candy Is Dandy: the girls first try at candy. This short was definitely better than the second one, but still not so great, more of an okay kind of short. My favorite part would have to be when the girls start beating up Mojo for no reason. At the end, it becomes one of those educational episodes. The girls acting loopy because of the candy was hilarious. It was like they were on drugs or something!

Catastrophe: Very terrible I would have to say, a blob monster comes to town to destroy Townsville because he lost his cat. Then it turns out it was in his but the whole time. Not the best short.moreless
  • A blob monster comes to townville looking for his lost kitty.

Catstrophy is one very cute episode, at least to me it was. I have it recorded and everytime I watch it I smile, i love the BGM when the blob monster started to pet the purple cat that the girls found for him and i liked how he said Kitty, it was so cute.

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (9)

    • When the girls blew up the glob monster with their heat vision, they could have easily destroyed its' remains to keep him from regenerating.

    • As the Mayor gave the Girls the candy, they all chewed them, but in some shots, when they felt the sweet taste, all the pieces of candy are still intact.

    • "Candy is Dandy" - After the Girls badly beat up Mojo, in the shot with Bubbles in the Mayor's office, Mojo's injuries are healed. And then in the last shot at the end of this episode, Mojo's injuries are back again.

    • In "Candy is Dandy," in the shot of Mojo saying "Back so soon," you can see his hand is right through the candy jar.

    • In "Catastrophe," when the Mayor reveals the statue, Blossom (statue) is seen with a frown on its face, but when we cut to the next scene, the frown disappeared.

    • In "Candy is Dandy," after Bubbles says, "That was amazing!," Blossom and Buttercup say "Yeah!," but Blossom doesn't move her mouth; instead, Bubbles moves her's.

    • In "Candy is Dandy," pay close attention to the girls when they're in the jacket and how distant they are from each other. When they fly away, they seem closer together.

    • The statue in "Catastrophe" kept changing positions.

    • When the girls were in the jacket, they were lined up vertically, but when they flew away, the lines were horizontal.

  • QUOTES (7)

    • Narrator: The City of Townsville... (monster roars) being attacked by a giant glob monster!

    • Mayor: Candy doesn't grow on trees, you know.
Bubbles: But we saved the day.
Mayor: Yes, you did. Once and you only receive, once.

    • Blossom: You're a bad monkey, Mojo.
Mojo Jojo: (in a child's voice) I know.

    • (A monster is holding the Mayor over Townsville Hall)
Mayor: Hey! I can see my house from here!

    • Blossom: We know you can't resist this opportunity.
Bubbles: What do you say... ?
      Buttercup: ... pal?

    • Blossom: We're sorry, Mayor.
      Bubbles: We want to apologize.
Blossom: Okay, you don't have to look at us, but at least hear us out. You see, we convinced Mojo to commit crimes.
Buttercup: Then we could save the day...
Bubbles: ... and get rewarded with candy.
Blossom: But then Mojo and the candy got the better of us.
Buttercup: We were out of control.
      Bubbles: We're sorry.
      (Long pause)
Mayor: And you yelled at me!
      Girls: We're sorry.

    • Mojo Jojo: Don't get me wrong. Destroying Townsville on a daily basis is a pretty good gig. But to be able to take away that which gave you so much joy, to destroy your happiness is just so much more satisfying to the soul. If only I could have seen the look on your faces when you realized. I think I can imagine.
Blossom: You're a bad monkey, Mojo!
      Mojo Jojo: I know.

  • NOTES (7)

    • Fiery Feline
In "Catastrophe," the Powerpuff Girls forming the Fiery Feline is similar to the Fiery Phoenix formed in the Japanese anime Gatchamen (or Battle of the Planets in the US). In that show, their spaceship would undergo a transformation into a firebird, but couldn't be maintained for long because it drew on the team's lifeforces.

    • Cats: Top Cat
In the last frame of "Catastrophe," you can see the cats from Hanna Barbera's cartoon, Top Cat.
