Episode Summary

EDIT
Judge Hiller assigns Lindsay the repugnant task of defending nun-killer Michael Kingston. Lindsay discovers that the police search that found the body was unconstitutional and, against all her morals, moves that Kingston be released. Helen delivers an impassioned argument, stating that the constitution was designed to protect the innocent, a category that doesn't include Kingston. Jimmy and Rebecca defend a man on solicitation charges, claiming that the undercover officer aroused the man, then announced she was a prostitute. Jimmy and Judge Kittleson arrange a private meeting.moreless

This episode is based on the 4th Amendment to the US Constitution. An unwarranted search leads to the "fruit of the poisonous tree." The fruit being the victim of a horrible murder. Although, the victim is a nun, why does this make her so special? The killing of anyone and placing their decomposing body in a closet would be tragic. I don't see the distinction that they make here by making her a nun. Nevertheless, the criminal procedure that is portrayed in this episode is awesome. The end is well thought out and appropriate and would give non-lawyers something to think about and discuss.moreless

    • Bobby: We've been assigned the case, so we do the job. Lindsay, meet with the client.
      Lindsay: (sarcastically) Oh, great.
Bobby: Ellenor, I want you to draft up a motion for a gag order. No doubt Helen will be trying this case in the media every chance she gets. You and Lindsay will try it if it gets that far since we're better off with women.
Lindsay: I'm moving out of criminal, remember?
      Bobby: Never mind.

    • (Lucy removing eggshells from Lindsay's hair after coming back from the defendant)
Lindsay: Why me? Why always me?
Bobby: Well, it won't be you from here on in. I'll be with you every step.

    • (Bobby and Lindsay in Judge Hiller's chambers)
Lindsay: The District Attorney is my roommate, that's grounds for disqualification right there.
Hiller: Not if the judge is convinced you'll rise above the potential conflict, which I am.
Bobby: Helen Gamble is also an ex-girlfriend of mine...
Hiller: And you've tried cases against her before.
      Bobby: Your Honor.
Hiller: Bobby, if I were to recuse you every time you've slept with the other side..
      Lindsay: Hey!

    • Judge Hiller: Oh, come on! You love these cases. Granted, it doesn't involve a chopped off head, but still...

    • Judge Kittleson: (to Jimmy) Say, why don't you come back in a couple of hours, hmm? When the robe is off.

    • Judge Hiller: I'll hear oral arguments tomorrow.
      Bobby: Why?
Hiller: Because I want to. It's my prerogative. Do you keep forgetting, I'm the judge?
Bobby: Let's not you forget it.
