Happily Ever After
AIRED:
An unknown assailant that was wearing a nun’s outfit during a late night at the office stabs Lindsay. Lindsay manages to utter the word 'nun' to Bobby before she passes out. Based on the information, Helen drags nuns into the courthouse for interrogation, reasoning that a nun upset over Michael (the nun killer) Kingston's acquittal may have committed the crime. Jimmy finds a photo of Lindsay with her image defaced in Judge Kittleson's office; bring a fleet of police to her home.moreless

  • This episode is precisely why I watch the series.

This is the episode that I would call the marquis example of what made the show great. The reason being, it took three seasons to get to this point. Once we get there, it is a lovely surprise. The following is events that sets the stage:

    A) George Vogelman's first appearance was in the first season. At the time, it doesn't seem like it would be a significant event. Ellenor and George meet, Ellenor doesn't like what she sees, and tries to back out. Should be the end of it. Then George gets in a little trouble. A girl he met the night before loses her head. Literally. George maintains his innocence. He's been framed. The lawyers are convinced he is innocent. They get him acquitted. B) Joey Heric schemed his way out of being convicted of killing his lover by tricking everybody into giving him immunity for his testimony. The firm later aids Heric in defending himself for killing another of his lovers. Both of us lovers, by the way, were stabbed.

    C) During the season, Judge Kittleson tells Bobby she had an erotic dream about him. Bobby is convinced she is crazy. A few before this one, Lindsay gets a nun killer off with a technicality. Now the stage is set. A man wearing a nun costume attacks Lindsay. Before she lost consciousness, Lindsay says 'nun'. Out of desperation, Helen rounds up nuns for questioning. (The nuns the same church that had one killed by Kingston.) Jimmy sees a picture in Kittleson's chambers. It's of Bobby and Lindsay, and Lindsay's face is inked out. This leads to a warrant, where they discover a nun costume in her closet. Heric sends a videotape making everybody think that he did it. Ellenor thinks maybe Heric framed George for the Robin murder. When Lindsay wakes up, she reveals that Kingston said, "See you soon." By the end of the episode, we have our man. Kingston, the nun killer, did it. The knife is found in a dumpster by his home. Mystery solved, or is it?

Bobby proposes to Lindsay, and it's one of the funniest moments in the series. Helen keeps interrupting, and Bobby keeps saying "quiet". Helen keeps saying "sorry". The end of the show sees George Vogelman walking down the street, wearing a nun outfit. The last three years, just rolled up into a wonderful surprise. Vogelman is not who we thought he was. I love it!moreless
  • Who wasn't surprised

My God, it's been a while since I saw this episode but I couldn't help but put my two cents in.

The whole George Vogelman plot was so well written. I really thought he was innocent.

I could have sworn to it, so when, in that last scene, the camera swirled from back to front to reveal George as the nun my mouth dropped open and I couldn't shut it for a while.

The whole marriage proposal was hillarious too. I thought that this series was at the top of it's field back then. Nothing could compare.

This episode was a fine example (if you had seen all the George episodes or else you wouldn't be as surprised as me)moreless

    • Father Patrick: You really love her, don't you?
Bobby: Why would I ever tell you? You'd just pass it on to God and he'd kill her.
Father Patrick: You believe that God kills the people you love. That a true theory?
      Bobby: That's my history.
Father Patrick: Fine. But she doesn't need a fat old priest holding her hand right now. She needs you.

    • (Bobby at Lindsay's bedside)
Bobby: We all love you. (taking her hand and bringing it to his lips in tears) I love you.

    • Helen: Look, I'm Catholic.
Father Patrick: With Catholics like you, who needs Protestants?

    • Bobby: This is the first time he shot anybody. (Slight pause, Judge Hiller gives Bobby a perplexed look.) Allegedly.

    • Bobby: Hey Lindsay, it's me. The doctors say that you're, you're doing good. Lucy's here. (To Lucy) You want to talk to her?
Lucy: (Sadly) Well, I've been afraid to since everybody says I'm annoying.

    • Bobby: He asked for his lawyer.
Simmons: No, he said he wanted to call his lawyer. There's a difference.
      Bobby: What difference?
Simmons: We have no evidence that he wanted to engage the legal services . . .
Judge Hiller: No, he was calling him to ask the price of fresh fruit. Come on, Mr. Simmons!

    • Father Patrick: (To Helen as he leaves the hospital room.) Kiss my ass!

    • Bobby: We don't trust these suspects to know what the hell is going on. They're stupid. We don't give them the right to waive counsel cause they're so stupid, they would. They're scum with third grade educations. They kill people and laugh and the courts are here to protect them at all costs!
      Judge Hiller: Counsel!
Bobby: We don't care about the victims. They're dead already! We come in here worrying about the Constitution and the rights of these brain-dead pieces of crap because they're what the system is all about.
