This is my most favourite episode of 'The Practice' & it's a great joy to be able to write this review commending it.In spite of the gruesome storyline involving Eugene there are many memorable scenes, none more so than the Preacher's non-eulogy at the funeral of the two boys.As a Clergyperson myself there have been times when you feel your words do sound 'hollow' so for that Preacher to suggest that the congregation 'just stand' I found very powerful & probably my favourite scene in the entire 'The Practice' canon.Fortunately I haven't had to conduct a funeral under such horrific circumstances.

There are standout performances galore from not only the regular cast but most,if not all,of the guest cast which, for me,makes this episode a standout in its own right.moreless
  • A great show that highlights The Practice at its best. And it intoduces us to the Amazing Raymond OZ who remonds you of Denny Crane.

    9.5
Bobby second chairs with his idol and old mentor Raymond OZ as played wonderfully by James Whitmore. Some fans believe that Oz may have been the protype for Denny Crane. Oz is suffering from memory loss due to a stroke but he is brilliant and charming in the court room. Eugene has a personnel crisis when a client that he got off earlier is arrested for killing two children. In a highly charged court scene the child murderer tells Eugene some disgusting things about sexually abusing the children and Eugene can’t stand it anymore and he physically attacks his client and beats him to a bloody pulp. This action will haunt Eugene years later. This is a good example of The Practice at its best.moreless

    • Jimmy: I'm only saying this cause guys like me, and there's a lot of them, we're never going to get the girl of our dreams. Never going to come close. So, the dream itself becomes kind of important. To turn on a TV or go to a movie and pretend the girl is somebody you might be with, that's as good as it gets.

    • D.A.: Objection to the speech.
Oz: Speech? (Laughs) If council had heard me before, he'd know that was no speech.
D.A.: What I do know is that this is not the Raymond Oz show here.
Oz: It could be, if you'd stop interrupting, young fella.

    • Eugene: You said that God has those kids. That tells me you believe in God. You got to be afraid of what the Almighty has in store for you. He's vengeful. Let's not forget that. Those little boys got parents. Let them bury their kids.
