I loved how protective of the boy Jarod was, and how serious seeing someone getting hurt could really damage a childs psyche.
I do not remember if Jarod actually saw himself in the litle boy, but anyone can see it. The fear the boy felt, we all know that Jarod felt that many times in his life. Yet, we see Jarod speaking with Sydney, who was a part of that fear. It was a contradiction common to the show and I am glad they kept it in this episode because it shows us just how much like a child Jarod still is. He cannot move on from the centre, whether he thinks he is or not. That is why he keeps calling Sydney. And in this respect, he is not letting go of his own trauma, like he tries to encourage the boy.
