Patrick McGoohan passed away on Tue., Jan. 13, 2009, in Los Angeles following a short illness. He was 80 years old. Besides being the creator and star of
The Prisoner, he won two Emmy Awards for guest appearances on
Columbo, in 1974 and 1990. (Yes, 16 years apart.) McGoohan was also praised for his role as the brutal King Edward Longshanks in Mel Gibson's
Braveheart (1995). That was his last major role.
McGoohan will no doubt gain renewed fame when AMC airs its remake of
The Prisoner later this year. His wife and three daughters survive him.
