What do you think happened to the former Number Twos?

    Besides maybe the "A.B. and C." and "The General" Number Two, I'd say most of them returned home to their old lives. We saw that's what happened to the "Free for All" Number Two and the retiring Number Two in "It's Your Funeral" (although he escaped).

    I've always thought of the Number 2 job as being a secondment.

    I suppose it depends how well you've done as to whether it helps or hinders your career.

    I would guess that most #2's had their brains washed afterwards...They had the technology.

    Not necessarily. Leo McKern's Number 2 pretty much acted the same way when he returned, we didn't see him doubt the system before and he actually succeeded, in a way, in that he carried out what they assigned to him, letting Number Six "escape," even if only temporarily.
