Dan's parents were killed when Dan was very young and he barely remembers them. But a man has now stepped forward and claims to have proof that he is Dan's real biological father. If his claims are true, that would mean Dan is not of royal lineage and is not eligible to compete for the Glendorran throne. But when Art, Cody, and Carrie try to look into the man's claims, he's run over and nearly killed in the parking lot of a hotel. Only then does he admit that he's lying as part of a plot to discredit Dan.

The royal contenders are in Paris for a brief rest before starting the next leg of the quest when Cody receives a visit by an old con-artist buddy of his. It seems Cody has been writing the man and bragging about his royal lineage. But he may have said too much, revealing enough information for his friend, a renowned "second-story man," to bypass Glendorran security and steal the crown jewels. Now he's ready to split the take with Cody, who fails in his attempts to convince his old friend to return the items. Complicating matters is the fact that both Glendorran security and Count Dardinay's henchmen are hot on the man's trail. Dardinay's men finally catch up to him and shoot him. The man dies leaving only one clue to the whereabouts of the jewels: "Marineland," setting off a frantic race to recover the royal treasures.

      Episode 2
      10/22/82
      6.1

Dan Underwood is a ruggedly handsome photo journalist; Art Henley is a retired cop from Kansas; Cody Johnson is a New York con artist; and Carrie Welby is a shoe buyer for a department store. That is until one fateful day when they are whisked away for the adventure of their lives. Initially, each is told they have won a free vacation in Glendorra, a small kingdom in the South of France. But upon arrival, they are taken directly to the royal palace and greeted by the aging King Charles. They are informed that each is in line to succeed the throne. It seems the aging King Charles is the last of his line and unlikely to produce an heir. If that happens, Glendorra's charter will expire and it's lands will revert to France. Fortunately, there is a loophole. It seems a similar situation occurred back in the 13th century, and France had allowed Glendora to choose a new heir from outside the direct line of ascension. So now, it turns out, Glendorra must restage the original 13th century quest to the letter if a new heir is to be crowned. Dan, Art, Cody, and Carrie have each been found to be distant blood relatives to King Charles, and therefore are each eligible to compete in the quest. Basically, each contestant is sent out into the world with only the clothes on their backs, and nothing more than a cryptic poem to lead them to their next location. Whoever demonstrates the most integrity and honor on their journey -- and gets there first -- wins that leg of the quest. There's also the exiled Count Louis Dardinay to deal with. He lead an unsuccessful coup against King Charles and as punishment was exiled from Glendorra, losing land and other investments valued in the billions. If the quest fails and Glendorra reverts back to France, he can reclaim his holdings. So he's out to stop Dan, Art, Cody, and Carrie anyway possible -- from tempting their weaknesses to discredit them to outright murder.
