The Real A&E

Show Summary

The Real A&E is a medical documentary that aims to give viewers a fly-on-the wall perspective of life in two of the United Kingdom's busiest accident and emergency departments (A&E). For the series, Sky1 was able to gain exclusive access inside the University Hospital at Walsgrave, offering viewers a rarely seen peek inside the lives of the medical staff – specifically the emergency care unit - and the sick and injured persons that flow in and out of the hospital everyday. As overwhelming as all that sounds, the camera is not confined to the walls of the hospital. In most episodes, the camera is brought along with the flight crews and medical wagons as they respond to accidents in the outside world. The series tries to add balance to the grizzly images of the injured by depiction of the emergency response units on a personal level - trying to understand what drives them and keeps them going in such a emotionally challenging environment. Most shows on television describe episodes and characters as hanging on the edge of life in death, with The Real A&E this is no marketing gimmick. Ride along with Britain's finest emergency response units, and learn a little about what they do and who they are.moreless
