This episode wasn't very good at all. For one thing Jessie was absent and whenever she is things just don't seem to be as entertaining. And there was also little development in the plot too. Jonny and Hadji get separated from Race and Benton in a storm and come across a ship graveyard so-to-speak. They get taken aboard a submarine and find out the giant squid is really this submarine full of men who were saved from sinking two years before by whales so they decided to hang around and protect the whales from whalers. That's all fine and dandy, but that's really all there is to the episode. Hadji and Jonny have to escape from the sub because the captain is either going to make them stay or kill them (since he explained his story). Their escape is kind of cool. Hadji stops his breathing by using his Yogi technique so that Jonny can sneak out, radio for help, and steal a boat, and that was interesting at least. Then just as Race and Benton find the boys the sub pops up to get them and is dragged down by a real giant squid. The Quest Team is safe and they take off, deciding not to tell anybody about the real giant squid so it can be left alone. The submarine pretending to be the giant squid is show at the end still destroying whalers so it apparently got away from the real sea monster, although they don't show us how. And that is it. It just didn't seem very exciting or developmental to me.moreless

    • Race: Saved from a renegade submarine by a giant squid. Who'd ever believe that story?
Jonny: If we don't tell anyone, no one will have to believe us.
Benton: I think that's the right decision, Jonny. I'd hate to see the creature which saved us dragged out from it's home and cut to pieces in the name of science. We will simply seal the files on this one.

    • Jonny: How long can we keep paddling?
Hadji: Easier paths have led to darker places.
Jonny: Well what kind of answer is that?
Hadji: We're in the middle of the Indian Ocean, paddling vaguely westward, in the hopes that we might reach Africa. What kind of answer do you want, Jonny? We can only keep going as long as we can keep going.
Jonny: That's not the answer I was hoping for, Hadji.

    • Race: Nice night for a sail. Man, I wish I was a kid again, Benton.
Benton: I thought you were, Race? I hadn't realized you'd ever grown up.
      Race: Thanks a lot.

    • Benton: Hard to imagine a sea monster powerful enough to sink a ship.
Jonny: If you ask me, those whalers got what they deserve. Anyone who'd kill a whale is no better than a murderer. I don't care who or what got that boat, I'm glad.
Benton: If every scientist let his feelings get in the way of his work, Jonny, science would never advance.
Hadji: Some lead with the heart and others with the mind. Greater progress, however, comes with the unity of both.

    • Benton: You know your watch ended an hour ago. Race or Hadji will take over if you're tired.
Jonny: Are you kidding? I wouldn't give this up for anything, I'm living a dream, Dad.
Benton: Searching for a lost submarine in an area where there have been reports of sea monsters for as long as man has sailed the oceans. I believe you're right, Jonny, we are living a dream.
