  • Stimpy's Invention is the best episode of the show I think

Black Hole: In it, Captain Hoek and Cadet Stimpy get sucked into a black hole, and live to tell the tale. However, the atmosphere begins to affect them very strangely though. Will they make it back home? Pretty good for the most part, but not the best of the earlier years. Not bad, just not amazing. 9/10 A-

Stimpy's Invention: In it, Stimpy continually invents things for Ren to test drive, but it just makes Ren irritated. Ren then decides to make a happy helmet to make Ren happy all the time. Will Stimpy succeed? Without a doubt, the best episode of Ren and Stimpy. It's just so perfect, from beginning to end, if I ever needed to reccomend this show to anyone I would tell them to watch "Stimpy's Invention." 10/10 A++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Overall, two great episodes. I didn't love Black Hole so much, but Stimpy's Invention was so perfect, that I gave the whole thing a 10. 10/10 A+moreless
  • this episode was so good that i almost blew my pants off because off of that episode even with that "Happy Happy Joy Joy"

the episode was the greatest thing i ever saw in my life. (did i tell you that "Stimpy's Invention" was the only good television i ever saw, it was better than the usual they serve in a can)Although i never understand the episode "black hole" I mean what was that about missing socks in that mystery hole, although the part when Ren and Stimpy imploded into noting until their faces were still imploded in the ending of the episode. still that episode was way, way better than all the stinking crap they serve in all those cans.

    grade point average: A++moreless
  • Although I really don't care much for 'Black Hole' (I think it's overrated), Stimpy's Invention is an excellent episode, and my favourite from season 1.

Sure Black Hole is a good episode (all episodes from R&S's first 2 seasons are), I just don't think it deserves any more respect than say..Robin Hoek. Maybe I missed something, but a lot of people think this is the second best of the show, and I can tell you that ain't true.

Stimpy's Invention however, is another story.

This episode was the first time we got to really see Ren's bad side. Stimpy has GOT to be the most likable character in any show, ever!

His stupidity in this episode always makes me laugh.

    Black Hole - 6.0/10

    Stimpy's Invention - 8.0/10moreless
  • Happy Happy Joy Joy!

    Stimpy's Invention:

Black Hole is a pretty good episode, but Stimpy's invention is my all-time favorite episode of The Ren & Stimpy Show ever. I love this episode. Happy Happy Jot Jot is the best! This is also a very funny episode, espically when Ren gets so happy that he "Must do nice things!" like "Ironing for Stimpy!" Also, it's funny when Ren is trying to get the happy helemt off by hitting it with a hammer. Doesn't that hurt his head? In my opinion, Stimpy's Invention is definitly a series classic.moreless
  • Best episode ever! 'Nuff said.

We all know Stimpy is, as Ren put it, "an eediot", but this episode proves us wrong. Very wrong! In Stimpy's Invention, Stimpy is an inventor trying to find the perfect invention for his ill-tempered friend, Ren. He ends up making the happy helmet, making Ren go insane. Classic.

In Black Hole, the final Commander Hoek and Cadet Stimpy installment, the pair end up being sucked into a black hole, mutating until they find a huge pile of missing left socks. This episode is a classic, because this one is so insane that it's just too good for television. I love those insane expressions on Ren's face when he has the happy helmet on. That's why i give this episode a perfect 10.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (5)

    • In 'Stimpy's Invention', when Stimpy calls Ren downstairs, Ren is wearing nothing when he gets up out of bed. Then when he comes downstairs, he's wearing a bathrobe. And when he appears in front of Stimpy seconds later, he's wearing nothing again.

    • The turntable Stimpy plays the 'Happy Happy Joy Joy' record on is an old "Close N' Play" phonograph, a record player built for children to play 45-RPM records automatically when you close the lid which has the needle on top.

    • Stinky Wizzleteats is a reference to 'The Littlest Giant' in which Ren's cow had "wizzled teats".

    • In the 'Stimpy's Breakfast Tips' segment, during one scene Stimpy's eyes aren't completely drawn as only his pupils can be seen. This was an error made by the overseas animation studio, and John K. left it in because it looked very funny.

    • In 'Stimpy's Invention', Stimpy puts his remote control shaver in full gear, shaving almost all of Ren's hair off, but it's restored within a few more frames.

  • QUOTES (6)

    • (Ren is trying out Stimpy's Stay-Put Socks)
Ren: Why, it's amazing! How do they work?
      Stimpy: They're filled with glue.
(glue oozes out of the top of the socks)
Stimpy: I'm so glad you like them, Ren! Stay right there. I'll get the Stay-Put hat and raincoat.
Ren: (shouts) You filthy swine, I will kill you!

    • (Stimpy puts on the happy helmet for Ren)
Ren: Hey! What eez this thing?!
      (trying to take it off)
Ren: Get it off of me!
Stimpy: It's the Happy Helmet, Ren! Now you'll always be happy!
      (shows Ren a remote control)
Stimpy: And this is the remote control. And I use this dial to control how happy you are!
Ren: (yelling) You sick little monkey!

    • (Ren grabbes Stimpy angrily as he chokes him)
      Stimpy: Ren, you're angry?
Ren: You're durn tootin', I'm ANGRY! I've never been this ANGRY in MY ENTIRE LIFE! (then he calms down) Hey! I feel great! I love being angry! (puts Stimpy down gently) Thank you, Stimpy!
Stimpy: (confused) Happy to be of service?

  • NOTES (4)

    • This ('Stimpy's Invention') is the first episode featuring some of Ren's lines done by Billy West (who later goes on to take over the voice of Ren); he does Ren's maniacal cackling.

    • In the original storyboard of 'Stimpy's Invention', after Ren would iron for Stimpy, he was supposed to blissfully lick Stimpy's sweaty, flithy armpit however Nick snipped that out.

    • 'Stimpy's Invention' barely survived and would have suffered the same fate as 'Man's Best Friend' if Nick execs hadn't approved it in response to John's begging them to.

    • There may have been some censorship occurences during production of 'Black Hole' because Bob Camp ended up sharing a story credit with Will McRobb (Nickelodeon editor).

    • 'Stinky Wizzleteats' is a take off on Burl Ives. Look at his image on the 'Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy' cover. Plus, the extra lines between verses "I told you I'd shoot! But, you didn't believe me! Why didn't you believe me?!" and "I'll teach your grandmother to suck eggs!" of the HHJJ song, are all Burl Ives lines from the Gregory Peck movie The Big Country.

    • Ren: Flesh and blood, not wax.

Ren's line comes from the Peter Lorre classic, The Beast with Five Fingers (1947).
