Magus was a spectacular and pretty entertaining pilot episode of the new series The River. I really enjoyed watching because the premise was appealing, and I like nature shows, though I know this is not that. Some viewers may pick apart things such as the cameras, but it is easily explained that there are hidden cameras, and even if that is not the case in some scenes, it's not that big a deal. I was very intrigued with how the story played out and became something I wasn't quite ready for as the crew viewed the hidden tapes of Dr. Emmet Cole. There is Magic out there and I certainly look forward to seeing more!!!!!!!!!moreless

    A very interesting introduction.

It doesn't feel like primetime television and yet I can't help feeling like I've seen these trees before, on a certain island that had a polar bear on it. The filming style is rather distracting, not just because of how shaky it is, but because it feels like there's far too many cameras watching the people than would be on a normal boat or than were taken with them off of the boat.

They kind of just threw us in there with the search team - minimal introduction to the characters and a whole crapton of characters at that. I don't know most of the names beyond Lincoln and Lena... and that that black camera guy's named AJ. It's very disjointed and not particularly terrifying.

The premise leaves a bit to be desired, but I suppose it wouldn't be fair if I didn't admit it was doing something different for a primetime show, seeing as I just said it didn't feel like one. Not at all what I was expecting, but definitely worth a watch when the next episode airs.moreless
