  • After being hospitalised, Jim encounters a squeaky clean medic with a sinister twist.

Despite leaving a loose end too many, A Different Drummer proves to be a generally strong episode, featuring a highly suspicious doctor who proves that despite having all the right connections, no-one ever gets one up on Rockford. One of the key themes that develops, is the sense of vulnerability everyone must go through while being placed in the care of supposedly "infallable" surgeons, in this case, Jimbo is conned into believing that something he seen was just the figment of a traumatised imagination after being injured by a pair of dipso drivers. However, after meticulously followng through his instincts, a "sawbones" (in every sense of the term) finally gets a taste of justice and Rockford regains piece of mind. John Considine gains merit for a slightly O.T.T. but generally measured performance as the dodgy medic, affording the Season 5 one of its strongest storylines.moreless
