Episode Recap

Dennis Becker returns home to receive a telephone call ordering him to see the Captain, at the same time his friends and family put on a surprise party for him. Dennis is not impressed and argues with Peggy, while Jim drives him to the station. Dennis is brought before Lieutenant Chapman, the Captain and Hicklin from Internal Affairs. They question Dennis about his recent temporary transfer to NARCO (Narcotics) Squad, and then suspend him as they acted on a tip-off and found a packet of heroin in the trunk of his car. At the bar Dennis explains to Jim that he and Peggy are struggling for cash – which has provided a clear motive for Internal Affairs. Dennis begs Jim's help, so he talks with Officer Andy Dolan and then plods the street with Angel to get information. Angel comes up with two names; Willie 'the Hat' Hatton and Marty Golden. While Angel traces Golden, Jim sees Dennis about Hatton. Dennis is working for an ex-cop friend as a taxi driver and on hearing Jim's news races off. Jim chases him and finds Hatton dead, and is hit over the head with a chair. Later Lieutenant Chapman questions Jim and puts Dennis under house arrest. Angel finds Marty Golden and takes Jim to the 'The Stage Left' where Golden is playing; he is a comedian – and not a good one, because his audience are not graceful. Angel has a go at some comedy while Jim talks with Golden. The pair is spotted by two goons and is chased. Jim learns that Golden works for Alex Kasajian, ho is dealing drugs and has bought a cop. Jim calls Dennis who calls Dolan, while Jim goes to Kasajian's racetrack. Jim is caught, but Dolan and another officer storm in. Jim is pleased until Dolan hits his colleague and tries to kill Jim chasing him through the grandstands…
