  • Another old friend in trouble.

Anthony Zerbe (one creepy looking dude even in a "normal guy" role!) guests as Jim's old friend who is now a best-selling writer. His drinking is out of control, and his new project is attracting the wrong kind of attention.

Like most episodes, we start off on one direction and wind up in another. Since the story is kept under wraps for most of the show, we're right along with Rockford. But it isn't terribly arresting, and Zerbe, for all of his drunken glory, never really hits it off with Garner. It's hard to imagine Jim ever putting up with this guy, much less being one of his oldest friends.

Not all bad, though. Garner is particularly good as he works with a very uncooperative client to crack the case, and we see where Jimbo inherited his fists when Rocky takes a poke at one of the punks in Jim's trailer.

Not bad, just not great...an average "Rockford."moreless
