The Scarlet Pimpernel (1956)

Show Summary

Welcome to the The Scarlet Pimpernel (1956) guide at TV.com.

They seek him here, they seek him there, those Frenchies seek him everywhere. Is he in Heaven, is he in Hell, that cursed, elusive Pimpernel. So begins each episode of this British adventure series, based on the immortal character created by Baroness Emmuska Orczy in the early 20th century. The setting is during the Reign of Terror, the bloody events following the French Revolution. Sir Percy Blakeney is a foppish member of the English court, a perfect cover for his activities as the daring, noble hero, protector of members of the French nobility and aristocracy who have been branded enemies of the state and sentenced to the guillotine by the French government, particularly Citizen Chauvelin, the Pimpernel's chief nemesis. Only a few fellow English aristocrats know Sir Percy's alter ego, and help him in his activities. The theme music is similar to that of the radio series, 1952-53, which also featured Marius Goring in the title role.moreless
