  • 'They seek him here, they seek him there, those Frenchies seek him everywhere! Is he in Heaven or is he in Hell? That damned elusive Pimpernel!'

I gave this show a "10" because Series 1 was absolutely excellent. The writing, acting and directing were superb by all concerned and except in the case of Elizabeth McGovern's accent, I couldn't fault it.

Richard E. Grant gave a flawless performance in the title role while Martin Shaw was perfect as his nemesis. Emilia Fox and Ronan Vilbert, just to name two, were also excellent and the entire production was riveting from start to finish. The costumes were comparable with any I've seen and the horror of the years surrounding and including The French Revolution were played out magnificently.

Series 2, in my opinion, was not so good. It lacked a certain something without Martin Shaw and Elizabeth McGovern being such excellent foils for Richard E. Grant but, nonetheless, it was certainly worth watching.

If you like historical period pieces, don't miss this one.
