It seems there is always a drama of one kind or another taking place in the Mole family and poor Adrian is of the belief that nobody understands all the pain, stress and pressure he must endure because of it. As things continue in the same way, Adrian decides that enough is enough and packs up and runs away, totally convinced that nobody will miss him and that his family will probably be happier without him around as they are so completely wrapped up in themselves and their own problems.
Once the decision has been made, he leaves several farewell letters and then heads away from Leicester but 'living rough' certainly doesn't agree with him as he is soon cold, wet, sad and lonely. He has no idea what would have happened to him had it not been for the succour he found in a warm and welcoming church in Hull.
A great way to end the series and feel happy for Adrian when things actually start to work out better for him later on. It's a pity that author, Sue Townsend, was so unhappy with what the show's producers did with her characters because it would have been marvellous to see all of these magnificent books on the screen. I think they would definitely have been the Harry Potter of their day if the rest of the books had reached the screen (although 'The Cappuccino Years' did later on. Fun stuff, no matter how old you are!
