After the screening of the final episode, the author was asked to allow the network to make another series from the several 'Adrian Mole' books but she refused, saying television made her characters 'look like cardboard cutouts' and she was very displeased with how they had been portrayed by the producers.
In this episode, Adrian and his father go shopping for groceries in a large Leicester supermarket. The story is set in the year 1981 but the viewer can clearly see an advertisement in the shot which mentions the Beaumont Leys Shopping Centre. This complex was not built until 1984, three years after the setting of the show.
In Sue Townsend's book "The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole Aged 13 and 3/4, Adrian's best friend, Nigel, is never given a surname. In this television series they called him 'Nigel Partridge', however, in books which the author published later, (after this series was made)she named him 'Nigel Hetherington'.
