  • Amy might want to have an abortion.

    8.5
"Amy, who's Amy? Ben and I are here to get free condoms."

This was probably the best episode of The Secret Life of the American Teenager to date. Powerful, emotionally gripping and entertaining, this episode pulled the viewer in from the opening scene that we've been waiting six weeks for, and kept them hooked until the very end.

The show originated as a dramedy, but has slowly transistioned to a strong tearjerker of a series. There are still some comedic moments thrown in, usually at the hands of Ben's or Amy's fathers. Adrian also plays her role perfectly, as does Grace.

The show went from prosaic to exciting and adventurous. The inner-depths of the character's lives are being explored and we are getting some strong drama in the process. As we get closer to Autumn and the start of network TV's season I'm not sure if The Secret Life of the American Teenager will be able to hold up against some of the better shows. Still, it's one of the best new shows this summer and I'm interested as to how things will all turn out in the end.

This episode was not without its flaws though. Marc Molina continues to be underutilized as its witty remarks are a refreshing change of pace. "15 year olds getting married. I'm doing my job." The guidance counselor could play a bigger role and a more impactful position in the show. Jack is also very irritating, although it was good not having the annoying Asian kids this time around.

    Good episode overall.moreless
  • Another great episode!

    10
Again, like the previous episode, this one was awesome! It had so much drama to it, with Amy's parents finding out about the baby, the decision Amy makes to have an abortion, and how it affects Ben, Adrien, Grace, and everyone else. I am liking Ashley more and more because of her support to Amy, and her straightforwardness to everyone. Again, I couldn't stand Lauren and Madison in this episode, and am starting to cringe my teeth whenever I see them on the screen, especially Madison, because she didn't come to Amy's house to help her, she only came because of her guilt of spreading rumors, and at Lauren not trying at all because of what her parents told her. With friends like these, who needs enemies? My favorite Ashley part was when Madison called her and Ashley told her straight up about them telling the world of Amy's pregnancy. I also like Ricky, Madison and Grace's scenes, and also enjoyed the scenes Amy's parents had with one another. I was hoping Adrien would tell Amy about her father's affair with Adrien's mother, but I guess they have saved that for another episode.

Overall, I thought this was a great episode!moreless
  • Parents find out.

    9.0
This episode had an amazing concept, and that would be abortion. At the end, with the counseler talking to Ben, and Anne talking to Amy was sooo boring, that's what brought the rating down, other than that, everything was amazing. After Amy tells her mom, her dad finds out. Then she sneaks out of the house to get a ride from Adrian & Ben to the clinic. I loved how Adrian & Ben were arguing! Hilarious, another hilarious notion, was when Grace & Ricky teamed up to stop Amy from getting an abortion. I hate Ricky from this point on! He is dtringing Grace along, as she is actually thinks she is changing him, and he doesn't care about Amy. While Adrian is just encouraging it!? I am so glad we didn't get to see much of Jack either, he is such a jerk. George left his family when he found out that Adrian was with Amy, Cindy Lee's daughter. So messed up, by the end, Amy doesn't get the abortion. She stays with Ben, and now there just waiting for their parents to "come around" on this whole wedding thing. Highly doubt. Great concept, great interaction with characters, and great development!moreless
  • Sixth Episode

    9.3
Amy finally spills the beans to her mother that she having a baby. Anne pretty shocked finds out that Ashley knew about this. When Anne decides to keep both the kids home from school, rumors spark that Amy stayed home to get an abortion. Anne tells George that Amy is pregnant. Amy tells Anne that Ben wants to marry her but he isn't even the father of her unborn baby. Amy calls Adrian for help and sneaks out of the house to go get an abortion with Adrian and Ben. Grace doesn't want Amy to get an abortion and practically drags Ricky to try and stop Amy from having the abortion. Adrian tells Grace that Ricky is lying to her and that he really doesn't care if Amy gets an abortion. Amy decides to not get the abortion.

WOW. so much going on! Personally this is one of my favorite episodes. I was so entertained.moreless
  • Abortion is a serious issue.

    9.0
Amy finally tells her mother that she's pregnant. When she stays home from school, everyone thinks that Amy's having an abortion. Grace doesn't want her to and she drags Ricky into it. Adrian and Ben drive Amy to the clinic. Ricky and Grace show up there too. Grace and Adrian argue. Ben really wants to get married to Amy and the feeling is mutual, but then Amy's mom reveals that she went through a similar experience. She got pregnant with Amy, so she got married to her dad just 6 monthes before the birth. Jack wants Grace back. Adrian and Ricky talk about Grace and Amy. Ricky can't believe he's a father, but he wants nothing to do with Amy or the baby.

This episode was pretty good! I think Ben and Amy are moving way too fast. Getting married at 15? That's crazy, but then again, so is getting pregnant at 15. I think the couples should be Grace with Jack, Adrian with Ricky and Ben with Amy. Lauren and Madison really annoy me! This episode gets a 9.0 out of 10!moreless
