  • Wow- I think I just ran out of new ways to say "This series is the best thing on television"! And this is one of the episodes that proves it.

    9.6
Crackling with dramatic tension straight out of the gate, this is another episode that ups the ante on the already consistently excellent quality of this series. Kavanaugh continues his relentless pursuit of the Team, trying to foment dissension within the ranks. He also openly comes after Aceveda- I'm sure that will come back to haunt him. Vic comes clean with Becca in a riveting scene that reminds us of Chiklis' awesome range as an actor. There is a subplot about the Strike Team working with another task force to bring down a meth dealer, but this episode belongs to C.C.H. Pounder. Her Claudette steps onto center stage as she and Dutch go full-bore after Kleavon in the interrogation of both of their lives. And though the I-have-a-hidden-disease-so-I'm-going-to-dramatically-pass-out plot device has been woefully overused by writers for ages, Pounder takes it to a whole new level. The interplay between her and the equally excellent Jay Karnes in this episode is nothing less than jaw-droppingly excellent.

    Don't miss this one...moreless
  • About as perfect as an edgy drama episode can be, bar none.

    9.9
Truly one of the best episodes of crime drama I have ever seen.

The sense of isolation for Vic and the boys was almost physical; the lies coming back to haunt, the nail-biting claustrophobic play inside the barn...

The incredible thing is that the awesome interchange between Claudette and Dutch was NOT the most energized part of the episode, and it could have carried the episode by itself.

What really set this episode apart from the others in terms of enormous quality were the silences, the gestures, the looks. Yes, it all finished with Claudette's thud, but the sheer electricity of the behind-the-scenes power play was something we rarely get to see in today's television.

The only thing stopping me from giving this episode a ten, which it deserves in comparison to almost any other episode of any other current show, is the fact that I was too stunned to emotionally care. In fact, I want Vic to pay, because all those things Cavanagh stated - they're true and Vic is a true and amazing bastard.moreless
  • Man Inside: One of the Best

    9.5
I cant get over the relationship between Claudette and Dutch. The writing and acting is second to none when it comes to their interactions. You can tell Dutch loves her very much on so many differnt levels. Not in romantic sence of course, but the care you see in his eyes, in his emotions, reactions...not enough can be said for this sub plot. Im a 30yr. old male that just got choked up hard over a TV show. When a show just slams your emotions like that, what can you say? You have two characters you just love. When Claudette fell, you go "OH NO, I hope she ends up ok" , Then you look at Dutch, and your heart breaks again. And then for the final kick, you start to wonder if she is going off the show..you get upset and angry ontop of already being upset for 2 characters, and all this emotions in about 3 mins. time. Not to mention the other plot with IA and the strike team. I doubt Claudette is dead(yet) as they will have to have a bit of closure if she is to leave. Maybe she will die in a hospital bed. My guess is it all depends on how much more gas is left in "the shield" tank. Because if they have a few more seasons, then i think she lives, and this was a throw off until the real whammy!

The writing for this series is hands down better than any cop show(and most dramas, including one of my fav. LOST) ive ever seen. Its filmed great, and perfectly casted. Ive read that 2 cast members will be off the show soon. I had figured Lem and Claudette just for the obvious reasons.Im also hearing this could be the final season, but probably not more than one more or maybe even a half season left after this.

Is it because the writers are running out of material? Or are ratings just not what they once were? Either way, it wont last forever(the final eppisode should be a 2hr. movie in the theaters!)Ill miss my friends when they go away. Great Great Show.moreless
  • Kavenaugh seems to be getting under Vic's skin. Will Vic and the team break or will they have Kavenaugh's number. Claudette seems to be getting worse. This episode she starts to bleed during an interigation. I think she will be leaving the show. Dutch shomoreless

We also see Kavenaugh getting to Acevada. It will come out that he had Vic doing some dirty things for him and I feel that it will also come out that he had the inmate killed also. We will see. This show just keeps getting better and better. I hope that it keeps going.
  • A True Classic Episode for the Shield

    10
Not since the First Season have they had such an Intense Interview Sequence like the one in this Episode. CCH Pounder showcased her great acting abilities more than in most past episodes.

Elsewhere, we had Kavanaugh digging up more from The Past of Aceveda and The Strike Team. It looks like Anthony Anderson may be making a guest appearance very soon!

This episode has proved that The Shield will go out just as it came on, with a bang rather than a whimper!moreless
