  • This may be the best episode yet. It has it all: smartly-paced action scenes; virtuoso acting between the members of the ensemble cast; plenty of Mackey in both thug and compassionate crusader modes- and an engrossing mystery at the center of it all.moreless

Starting off with a (literal) bang, this episode grabs you by the throat, and doesn't let go. A mystery killer is targeting the Hispanic community and Vic, saddled with an unwanted Latino partner, goes into full vigilante mode, trying to nab the perp before racial tensions boil over. Shane continues his downward spiral, spurring an unnecessary altercation with a suspect, then going ballistic on him. Aceveda continues his dogged pursuit of The Strike Team, coaching his star witness Julien, who is about to give a statement to I.A.D. Still eyeing a Council seat, Aceveda also leaks the details about the investigation to the media. Gilroy doesn't like the heat, so he pressures Mackey to give Shane up to save himself and the rest of the team.

There is a subplot with Dutch and Claudette investigating an allegedly bogus psychic, who has a chilling message for Dutch. For once, the detour doesn't detract from the quality of the episode, and was actually quite enjoyable.

As mentioned, the pacing in this episode is breakneck, with welcome interludes of interpersonal drama, a socially conscious but not preachy message and a couple of devilish twists that will probably leave your jaw hanging open.

    Damn, this is gettin' good!moreless

I thought this was a very well written episode, perhaps the best episode since the pilot when you break down the writing by itself. I thought bringing back Vics story with the drugs was a good thing, as it might bring back into the limelight the officer that was killed. Vic and Shane look to be in for a tough road ahead, but with Vic stumbling upon the black man at the end of the episode he may have a little bit of leverage when it comes time for the trial that may put him and Shane behind bars. I thought the 'random killing' thing being connected to the man who is sleeping with the black guy was one of the greatest twists in the season. Fantastic episode, should be rated higher then it is here on tv.com. It was a little slow in the beginning though after the shootings and bringing back up Sallys case again could have been what brought it down.moreless

Did you want to report a crime? Glenda: I've lost track of all the crimes. Dutch: I don't underst-- Glenda: I've lived in this neighborhood all my life keeping my complaints to myself. But no more. My apartment has been broken into seven times in the last four years. SEVEN TIMES! And you never catch anyone! You have got graffiti and cuss words on every single wall that you see. I've got needles on my sidewalk, (Throws pencils on floor) beer cans on my lawn, and I stopped ducking at the sound of gunshot years ago. We can drop smart bombs down chimneys half a world away, but some sicko gets released from jail because of a computer screw up, and rapes my niece! (Pause) How does this make sense? I see that yellow police tape everywhere that I go. And it's all sirens and helicopters and search lights... You got mothers killing their children, children killing strangers, and maniacs flying airplanes into buildings -- and I just want life to go back to the way it should have been!
