  • Michael Chiklis' directorial debut is a worthy effort. This episode crackles with tense energy, and is revelatory in a number of ways.

    8.8
    "Great"
In his directorial debut, Michael Chiklis shows a grasp of the caffeinated style this show is known for; this episode seamlessly integrates into the series whole. Revelation is the order of the day. Vic's suspicions that Owen has gotten close to Corinne are confirmed. The identity of the money train filcher is made known. Aceveda learns who the perps that humiliated him are. Aurora finally finds out what happened to her husband (and reacts less than supportively). Corinne is attacked, and frenzied detective work uncovers her assailant. And Walon's hostility at Claudette again surfaces, ending the Decoy Squad assignment to the Barn, and resulting in Wyms being effectively demoted back to her old detective position.

There is a well-written main plotline involving a lynching which threatens to ignite an all-out race war, and some leadership conflicts among Vic's newly-anointed gang proteges. But the defining moment of the episode is Vic wrangling his way back into undisputed leadership of the Strike Team- and absolute rule of the streets.moreless

    • Tobar: Hey man, you hurt us, you hurt Kern. Vic: Kern's licking caviar off a Czech whore's nipple. He won't be too hurt. Edit
    • (To Prophet Leader) Vic: Twizzy will be in county 'till his hearing. That'll give you a few weeks to get someone inside. Stop the pain. Anything after that, commit any sins, I'll be nailing you to a cross. Edit
    • David: What is it? Vic: My men are on the wrong scumbag. David: How did you do that? Vic: You and Wyms have had me buried with bullshit over the last couple of months. I'm out of touch David: Oh what, so it's my fault? Vic: Oh I'll bring in the right guy. David: Good Vic: But I'm never gonna let this happen again. I'm no good half in half out. Now you gotta make a choice. You either let me do what I do, or I'll pull the plug on the Strike Team. Take my boys to another part of town. Edit
