This episode, the first of a two-part season 1 finale, does a great job of upping the ante and setting up the next episode.

Gilroy is involved in a hit-and-run, and talks Vic into helping him cover it up. But he is hiding a shocking secret that imperils Mackey and those closest to him, and Dutch is dangerously close to uncovering the truth, which could take Mackey and Gilroy both down. Shane goes undercover in an only mildly interesting cockfighting subplot. The star plotline here is a riot that breaks out in a black neighborhood after two people die because the police took an hour to respond to a 911 call. And, as if things aren't bad enough for Vic, Gilroy comes after him and his family.moreless

"Superb"

Julians homosexual storyline really brought this episode down I thought. Just about every corner of his emotions has been explored this season - possibly foreshadowing a painful death in the finale of the season. Aside from the killing in the pilot, none of the major characters have died this season. I thought this part of the finale was pretty good, setting up well for the second part of the finale which will end Season 1 for a little bit. I thought Vics storyline was really good and complicated, but the sidestorys in this episode werent really good at all. David and the police tape thing getting leaked to the public screams conspiracy as someone had to do the leaking for it to get out. I thought those scenes were very well done too, but Julians storyline and bits and pieces of Shanes storyline seemed a bit to random and out of place for me.moreless
