When Bart sees a commercial for the ultimate cruise, he begs his parents for a family vacation. Low on cash, the only way they can go is if each family member sells one valuable. Once they're away, Bart is determined to make the vacation last forever. So he comes up with a plan to make sure they never have to return home.

Show Title: Only the usual zoom in to the couch gag through the letter "P" in The Simpsons.
Billboard and Chalkboard Gags: None.
Couch Gag: On a plain white background, all furniture, decorations, and even each family member are seen only by their names. The word "suck" is seen twice when Maggie sucks her pacifier.
The title is a reference to the David Foster Wallace essay "A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never Do Again," about Wallace's experiences on a cruise. Other references to the essay include the name of a ship, theNadir, that the cruise agent offers to transfer the family to after it seems that their original ship is overbooked. (Nadir is the name Wallace gave his cruise's ship, the MVZenith), and a cameo appearance by Wallace sitting at a table behind Bart at dinner and wearing a tuxedo T-shirt.
The Love Boat
When Marge comes out wearing a captain's hat and vest and looks like Captain Stubing. This is similar to the 1977 sitcom The Love Boat where a cruise ship takes passengers on a voyage across the sea.
