The episode begins with Bart and his friends, Richard, Lewis and Milhouse; along with Lisa watching wrestling on TV in the living room. Bart is excited about the upcoming match and Lisa tells him, "Even a five-year-old knows this is as choreographed as any ballet." Cut to Homer, who is at Moe's bar watching the very same wrestling match, he comments to Barney about who he thinks will win the wrestling match. Back at the house, Bart asks Milhouse to turn up the volume, and when he does Bart steals Milhouse's spot on the couch. Cut quickly over to Moe's where Homer has just stolen Barney's stool after he got up to go to the bathroom. The wrestling match ends on the TV, as one of the wrestlers has pulled out a monkey wrench and knocked the other wrestler out. At the bar everyone boos at the result of the match and throws popcorn at the TV, while the same scene is played out back at the Simpson home. A commercial plays on the TV for a monster truck rally coming to Springfield, on Saturday, featuring a car eating robot dinosaur called "Truckasaurus." It instantly captivates Bart and Homer, sending them into a trance. As soon as the commercial finishes, Homer throws down some money to cover his tab and races home. Bart runs out of the house, looking for Homer. Homer with tires squealing, flies into the driveway and jumps out of the car. Bart runs up to him and they meet each other on the front lawn. Bart and Homer stare at one another, read each other's minds, and in unison shout, "Truckasaurus!"
Later at dinner, Homer suggests to the family that they all go see the monster truck rally on Saturday night. Marge and Lisa object, citing Lisa's band recital on the same night. Bart and Homer become distraught, but when Marge figures out that the recital takes place at 5:00 and the rally takes place at 8:00, she decides they can all go to both events. On Saturday, at the school auditorium, Lisa and the rest of the school band are on stage, as Principal Skinner introduces them. Throughout the recital Homer becomes increasingly impatient. The camera pans through a content and respectful audience, enjoying the concert, when the camera passes over Homer, he can be seen impatiently pointing at his watch in an effort to get Lisa's attention. At the end of the recital just as everyone takes their bows, Homer quickly rushes on the stage and snags Lisa. Cut to the family in the car with Homer at the wheel, speeding franticly, trying to make it to the rally on time. When they arrive at Springfield Speedway, the parking lot is full and Homer cannot find a spot. Marge points out what she thinks is a parking spot, but inadvertently directs Homer straight into middle of the packed stadium, the car quickly gets stuck in the mud. "Truckasaurus," the 4 story metal dinosaur that breathes flames and eats cars, picks up the Simpson's family vehicle with everyone screaming inside.

  • "Bart the Daredevil" is arguably the best episode of season 2.

    9.3
Bart witnesses dare devil Lance Murdock perform insane stunts while at an event. While sleeping in the car on the ride home, Bart dreams of being a dare devil, and takes upon that dream by pulling off stunts himself. Soon, however, Bart gets bored of doing similar stunts over-and-over again, and decides to jump something big - the Springfield Gorge. Homer tells him not to leave to jump the gorge, but Bart sneaks out and does it anyway. While there, Homer asks him not to jump again, and Bart promises not to. Homer eventually slides down a slope directing down at the gorge and gets seriously injured.

This is definitely one of the seasons best. Not my favorite episode yet, but that is soon to come.
  • This episode defines exactly why I watch this series... So dang hilarious when Homer was falling down the gorge, and in many other parts.

While at a Truckasaurus show, Bart is enthralled with the stunts of fearless daredevil Captain Lance Murdock. When one of his stunts goes wrong, he is sent to hospital. Dispite all this, Bart wants to become a daredevil, so he performs skateboard tricks in front of his friends. He hurts himself and is sent to hospital where Dr. Hibbert gives him a safety lecture. However, he sees Lance Murdock in the hospital, who encourages him to give it a go. With his encouragement, Bart plans on jumping Springfield Gorge. Homer concludes that the only way he can stop Bart is to perform the stunt himself to show him how dangerous it is. Bart knows that Homer will die, so he pulls out of the stunt. Homer accidentaly steps on the board and unwantingly performs the stunt.. falling down the gorge, but still lives on.
  • daredevil

bart sees a daredevil and soon he wants to become one. he starts off doing petty jumps and stuff, but soon he wants a challenge: to jump springfield gorge on his skateboard. lisa tells homer who forbids him, but bart sneaks out. homer finds hi and tells him he can not go, but instead, in one of the series' most memorable scenes, homer falls down springfield gorge.

a classic mostly for the gorge scene. this feels like a shorter episode than most, but that doesn't detract quality. A+ episode, no doubt, hilarious, good plot, and a very memorable offering from the season known as 2
  • this is one of the eps that made people want to come back for more and more

    9.0
this is one of my all time favs from the simpsons. the dardevil ep. where bart goes to a monster truck ralley show and see lance merdock do a daredevil stunt he instead he jumps it and makes it but fall back into the tank and get really really hurt. and bart see that and decides that is what he wantes to do his first stunt he tries to jump the car but gets hurt. and then lisa takes him to see lance and lance tell him to keep doing it son if that is what you want to do . and then bart does some nice stunts and homer gets mad and then decides he is gruonded and he seeks out and shows up and goes to the top of the gorege and everyone is waiting and then has he is going down the homer stops him and he and homer make up but homer is going down the gorge he jumps it and says he king of the world and he goes down the gorge and the ambulince hits a rock and goes down again. and that is the end
  • a decent episode

    8.4
bart the daredevil contains one of the most funniest moments to happen homer's plunge on "drum roll" springfield gorge homer falls down the gorge and when is escorted into the ambulance it hits a tree and falls down the gorge again with allthe bones in his body broken or severly skinned up

lol i couldn't stop laughing at it however there were no other funny parts or gags that made you cakle likea jackyl ( metaphor used in the bart book) only the infamous fall down springfield gorge neverhteless it was still a decent episode for season 2's mild sense of humor
  • Bart becomes a Daredevil and desides to jump Springfield Gorge.

    9.1
Bart and Homer are excited to learn that a monster truck rally is coming to Springfield, then discover it is on the same nightt as Lisa's band concert. After the concert ends, the Simpsons rush out to the ralley ony to arrive late and have their car eaten by a fire-breathing robot called Truckosaurus. Nonetheless, they watch the rest of the show, where Bart is amazed by a reckless motorcycle daredevil named Lance Murdock. Bart imitates Murdock's stunts on his skateboard, and, he desides to jump Springfield Gorge. Bart cannot be talked out of the leap so Homer rushes to stop him. He does stop Bart only to go toppling down the cliff himself.
  • Who has the most courage in the world?

    10
Awed by the stunts pulled by a pro Lance Murdoch, Bart decides to follow the path of daredevil. Using his skateboard, he begins practising his stunt. His resolution endures even when he is hospitalized for a bone fracture. All this he does for the quest of being the most courageous. Meanwhile, his family is observing him with nervousness.

Anothet classic. Sometimes I find it hard to believe how a 20 minutes cartoon can have so many family and moral values mixed together and still, is able to deliver its contents beautifully. In the end, we will all comprehend the meaning of being brave. True courage is not concerned with audience and fame, but love that drives a man to do real mad stuff (like jumping over some gorges).

This is yet another great classic from Season 2. Its about Homer and Bart going to the daredevil show and Bart was inspired by Lance Murdoch (First appearance of him) when Bart tried doing it he injures himself and Dr Hibbert on his first appearance told Bart not to do it again then at the end Homer jumps Springfield gorge and making a classic scene from the series.
  • Classic

A fine examle for a halirious episode, we see that Bart realy wants to be a dardevil and jump Springfiedl Gorge. Homer does a godo job by trying to persaude him not to. But of course, Bart can't help but break his promise. Great story, and a good start with that Truckosaurus thing. It was very funny, even though most fo the funny parts are everyone getting beaten to death. Homer too a beating too, which was shocking but funny in my opinion. I loved this. Bart the Daredevil shows that Bart is fearless, and Homer is fearless trying to save Bart and killing himself.
  • Trying to emulate Captain Lance Murdock, Bart began jumping over some obstacles (pets, the family car, Homer on the hammock) until he felt what he was doing was too easy and thought of jumping the Springfield Gorge

    9.6
Classic!!!, I think I can not say anything else concerning this episode. One of the best in the season and perhaps in the history of the Simpsons. It is the quintessence of Bart the rebel boy who does what he wants, nevermind what his sister, his parents, or other adults tell him.
  • one of the best in season 2

    9.9
this is without a doubt the most memorable episode in simpsons history. who could forget homer surviving a crucial fall down springfield gorge only for the ambulance to run into a tree and homer go crashing down the cliff once again. this is a classic scene, shown in many episodes up until the point where lisa says, "no dad, everyone's sick of that memory" but i don't think i'll ever be. the first act was funny aswell, with homer and bart being so alike at home and at the bar, both stealing their friend's seats and both reacting the same way when they see the truckasaurus commercial and both moan when they hear that they have to go to lisa's saxamophone thing. the fact that bart wants to be just like lance murdock after he sees him almost die and the addition of the king of the jungle into the creatures-infested water were great jokes. this episode was filled with comedy, action and craziness. a terrific episode.
  • A good episode overall, punctuated with one and a half minutes of sheer, unutterable brilliance.

    10
I have always refered to this episode as "The Truckasaurus Episode". Others will talk about the hilarity of Homer's oft-replayed plunge into the Springfield Gorge. (After all, it was responsible for his later addiction to prescription painkillers, according to the "Behind The Laughter" episode.)

But to me, as funny as the rest of the episode is, as much as I may have enjoyed (for example) Lance Murdoch's quitely urgent delight at "seeing Bart take an interest in danger", there is nothing in the rest of the episode, the rest of the Simpsons as a series, or indeed in all prior efforts toward comedy by humanity as a collective, that can touch the Truckasaurus festival.

The advertisment: "If you miss this you must be **DEAD**!! Or in **JAIL**!! But if you're in jail, **BREAK OUT**!!". The build up to Lance Murdoch's leap: I was sure I could see where they were going with "the king of the jungle, one MAN EATING LION!" Never have I been so delightfully wrong. And finally, the jump itself: the crowd so overawed with terror that only Bart can stand to watch. The first time I saw this episode-- saw that Truckasaurus festival-- ranks as one-and-a-half of the finest minutes of my life. (Behind my wedding, though, Honey, in case you're reading this.)
  • This episode had a huge impact on me. Read on...

This episode was fantastic. It made me really think about the dangers of dare devil stunts yet still able to make you laugh. I feel this is very hard to do and I thought they did this really well. This episode included a lot about the importance of family. An example of this is shown that when Lisa is worried about her brother getting killed, even though Lisa hates Bart, we are shown here that she really loves him. We see one of the biggest bonding points between Homer and Bart, this significantly shown when Homer says "Because that way you'll see what it's like to witness a family member, risking his life for no good reason". Bart then realises then that his family means a lot more to him than 'looking cool'. In my opinion, this is one of the most touching episode's of The Simpsons plus also being funny and witty. You must watch it.
  • A solid episode all around that is pretty action packed. Also, look for one of the series most classic (albeit overplayed) moments: when Homer falls down Springfield Gorge...twice!

    8.0
One aspect of this episode that I really loved was that Bart witnesses Captain Lance Murdock almost get killed and yet he still is captivated by the idea of becoming a daredevil. Typical Bart there.

There's other gems to be found here other than the daredevil storyline. A cute moment comes when Homer and Bart both see the Truckasaurus commerical at the same time at different locations and then rush to one another to express their desire to go. Homer is personified when he yawns his way through Lisa's school band recital in eager anticipation of the Truck show...then rushes on stage to grab her before she can even take her bow.

So you've got great characterization here. Interesting plot. And some serious tension too when Homer struggles to stop Bart from deciding to finally jump over the Springfield Gorge once he becomes the daredevil.

Okay, let's talk about that famous scene when Homer falls down the Springfield Gorge. In the show's earlier years, this scene was the most played out--both in clip shows and I think whenever the show needed a clip for talk shows or whatever. Why was it so special? I think because the animators went out of their way to make it as realistic as possible. It could have been more gruesome easily, but this was definately NOT a homage to the cartoonish plunges taken in those old Warner Brothers cartoons. A pretty brave thing for this show to do considering it was under harsh scrutiny by parents and the media.

Anyway, I don't know if I would consider this episode a classic. But it was definately one of the better episodes of the 2nd season.
