  • Homer and Marge become marriage counselors for first baseman Buck Mitchell and his hot singing wife Tabitha

    9.0
Homer and Marge offer up martial advice to the Springfield Isotopes struggling first baseman, who is having problems with his pop star wife. I thought that this was a superb episode of "The Simpsons". It was very funny and it was very entertaining for the most part. My score is a little low because I didn't really like all of the men making fun of Buck Mitchell because his wife Tabitha was "putting on a show" at the baseball game plus it got a little boring in the second half of the episode. Homer and Marge being marriage counselors was funny and entertaining. It was very funny when Homer didn't know that was him in the Couple Cam with Marge at the baseball game. More parts in this episode were very funny as well. Overall, a superb episode of "The Simpsons"..... not my favorite but it was funny and entertaining for the most part. 9/10moreless
  • great

    8.0
Homer and Marge counsel a couple on having a good marriage, but things go bad when Homer and the wife of the couple they are counseling are caught in a compromising situation, which makes his own marriage suffer too.

Good episode. It was another 'marriage fight' episode, and they have had a lot of those in this show, but it still brought some good laughs to the table for me, and that's really all I could have hoped for, so it is a decent enough episode to get a solid "B" as a grade from me. Great episode, i think.moreless
  • Great way to end season 17, but could have been a bit funnier though...

    8.9
When Homer hears that the Isotopes are on a winning streak, he takes the family to the game. The first baseman's game is going bad, caused by his sexy singing wife Tabitha embarrassing him during the game's national anthem. Buck Mitchell sees Marge and Homer's kiss on the game's Kiss-Cam and comes to them for marital advice. They start working with the couple and Buck's baseball career turns around, but it and the Simpson marriage goes awry again when Buck catches Homer giving Tabitha a neck massage. While Marge and Homer try keeping their marriage together they also try to get Buck and Tabitha back together.moreless

    • Moe: Buck! Buck! It's me! That weird guy from the stadium!
Buck: There were a lot of weird guys at the stadium.
Moe: You know, (sobs) I remembered you.

    • Marge: (Reading from a counseling book) "Try to frame criticism of your spouse in a positive manner."
Buck: Well, I'm positively sick of her shaking her lady parts for the world to eyeball.

    • Moe: (While Tabitha Vixx is singing) Hey Buck! How does it feel that your wife is turning on a creep like me? Weird I bet. Heh heh.

    • Tabitha: He was the first man who didn't just love me for my body. He always complimented me on my hair.

    • Kent Brockman: Springfield is once again overrun with fair-weather fans.
Homer: The Isotopes are winning? To the bandwagon!

    • Homer: What a game! I got on the kiss-cam, I participated in the wave and I got to pee in a trough. Marge, can we get a trough?
Marge: For the last time, no!

    • (at the first counseling session)
Homer: Now let's remember no one's right and no one's wrong… till I say so.

    • Homer: Buck, you've got a beautiful woman with a hot body that any man would fantasize about, even while making love to his own Marge.

    • (Lisa is talking to Bart in the school playground)
Lisa: Isn't it weird that our parents are giving marital advice? They're always fighting. If you listen closely, you can hear them arguing right now.
Homer: (shouting in the distance) And I say, a monkey can mow our lawn!

    • Homer: Like I always say; Compromise is the key.
      Marge: I always say that!
Homer: Let's compromise and say nobody said it.

    • Tabitha: Hey, why don't you stay and have a bite? (offers Homer some chicken)
Homer: Oooh, you're so hot… if only I'd seen you before I met my wife.
Tabitha: Oh Homer, you're sweet but… Oh, you're talking to the chicken.
Homer: (to the chicken leg he's eating) Don't tell the hamburger in my car.

    • Tabitha: Oh! Your standing lamp is dirty. Let me polish it.
Bart: (Seeing Tabitha dancing around a lamp; on his cell phone) Cancel all my appointments!

    • Lenny: Remember when we used to kiss like that, Carl? … With our respective girlfriends?
Carl: I wonder where Jill and Kelly are now.
Lenny: I heard Jill died and Kelly I think is a prostitute.

    • Bart: (after watching Tabitha stripping on stage) Wow, I've got this sudden urge to give her a five dollar bill.
Marge: That's it, we're outta here!

  • NOTES (1)

    • Blackboard Joke: Have a great summer, everyone.
Couch Gag: The family enters the living room, but their couch shows its teeth and begins to come after them. They run out the front door and onto the street, where we see that their neighbors are having couch troubles of their own. We cut to Sherri and Terri's house where the twins are sitting on a bean bag couch that swallows them whole. Meanwhile Springfield's finest are being terrorized in their squad car by a couch and two chairs; Professor Frink's flying sofa is firing energy beams at him and Moe uses a shotgun to dispense with his bar furniture that is on the move. Finally Homer (tired from running) stops to rest at Couch World, where he is smothered by couches.

  • ALLUSIONS (6)

    • The title of the episode alludes to the phrase "turn a double play" which is used in baseball when a team gets two outs simultaneously.

    • The Pietà
The file photo of Homer and Marge shown on the news after they help with the marriage counseling is based on The Pietà (artwork based on The Virgin Mary holding Jesus after his death).

    • Homer: (to Tabitha) Why didn't you marry one of your crummy backup dancers?
A reference to pop star Britney Spears' former husband Kevin Federline, who used to be one of her backup dancers.

    • Monk
The family watches the TV show Hunch, which is a parody of the detective/comedy show, Monk.

    • Vin Scully
The broadcaster calling the Isotopes baseball games is modeled after famed Los Angeles Dodgers broadcaster Vin Scully.

    • Black Sunday
The scene with the Duff blimp crashing and Homer running refers a similar scene in the 1977 film Black Sunday: The Goodyear blimp crashes at the Super Bowl by the hand of terrorists.
