  • Bart Has A Crush

    10
Bart has a crush on Laura Powers, the daughter of Ruth Powers, who just moved in by the Simpsons. He tries to win Laura's heart, but he learns she is dating Jimbo Jones. So, he does a classic prank call to Moe's, and says he is Jimbo. So Moe tries to kill Jimbo, who weeps for Moe not to. So he and Laura break-up, and Laura admits if Bart was older she would probably like him more.

One of my personal favorites, I really like the way Bart was characterized in this one. Really funny with a great story. Perfectmoreless

I actually loved this episode when i first saw it. I just saw it again and i can relate to Bart because i had the same

expireince with falling in love with an older girl who was 5 years older than we had a relationship before she moved away. I liked this one becuase Bart learns that love can hurt especially since this is the first time we see him fall in love. I thoguht the prank calls were hilarious especially Amanda Hug and Kiss. Great Episode. It was funny to see the big bully cry down to his knees in front of bart which showed how sensitive he is. i hope they make an episode where bart finally falls in love permanently.moreless

Evergreen Terrace welcomes two new neighbors, Ruth Powers and her lovely teenage daughter, Laura. Bart falls hard for Laura, but she thinks of him as just a little friend. Heartbroken, Bart has to watch as the girl he loves starts dating Jimbo Jones. One night while Laura is babysitting Bart, Lisa and Maggie, Bart devises a way to get revenge on Jimbo, who also happens to be over the house. Bart prank calls Moe's Tavern one last time and claims to be Jimbo and gives his address. Moe charges over to kill Jimbo, but when the little bully starts to cry, Moe reconsiders and leaves. Laura reconsiders, too, breaking up with Jimbo.moreless

    This is an interesting episode.

Bart has falled in love with the new girl in Evergreen Terrace. Laura has fall for Jimbo, the bully that tormented Bart. Good thing that Laura and Jimbo are going to the Simpsons house for a baby-sitting.

Bart made a prank call to Moe for Amanda Hugginkiss. It means "a man to hug and kiss". When Moe asks that why can't he find Amanda Hugginkiss, the customers laugh at him. Moe says "You little S.O.B.! Why, when I ever find out who you are, I'm gonna shove a sausage down your throat and stick starving dogs in your butt!" Bart claims that he is Jimbo Jones. Moe goes to the Simpsons house and think Jimbo is the prank caller. He suddenly goes back when Jimbo cries.moreless

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (3)

    • Items Marge gives Ruth Powers from the Springfield Welcome Mobile include: A potholder from the Potholder Barn, a coupon for a "Free Tattoo with Every Tattoo Removal", and a copy of Das Butt (rated XXX).

    • Sara Gilbert, who provided the voice of Laura Powers, was also playing Darlene Conner on Roseanne at the time.

    • Goof: Bart gives Moe the wrong address. In all following episodes, the Simpsons live at 742 Evergreen Terrace, but in this episode he says they live at 1094 Evergreen Terrace.

  • QUOTES (15)

    • Mrs. Winfield: Mr. Simpson, my husband and I have decided to move.
Homer: Gonna run out the clock in Florida, eh?
      Mrs. Winfield: Yes.

    • Lionel Hutz: Mr. Simpson, this is the most blatant case of false advertising since my case against "The Never-Ending Story"!

    • Homer: Zoo Keeper! Zoo Keeper! Those two monkeys are killing each other!
Zoo Keeper: (whispering) There're having sex.

    • Barney: Uh oh, my heart just stopped..... oh, there it goes.

    • Moe: Barney, don't steal any beer while I'm gone.
Barney: What kind of pathetic drunk do you take me for? Somebody spilled beer in this ashtray!

    • Lawyer: Your honor, I'd like to show the court just how much shrimp Mr. Simpson ate. Bring it in boys!
Aide: Eighteen thousand letters, all addressed to Santa Claus.
Lawyer: You want the People of Springfield versus Kris Kringle. That's next door.

    • Bart: I'll show them who's "just a kid!"
Marge: Bart, bedtime! I laid out your jammy-jams!

    • Homer: Son, a woman is a lot like a... a refrigerator! They're about six feet tall, 300 pounds. They make ice, and… um… Oh, wait a minute! Actually, a woman is more like a beer. They smell good, they look good, you'd step over your own mother just to get one! But you can't stop at one, you wanna drink another woman!

    • Grampa: Bart, oh you remembered my birthday?
Bart: Huh? Oh, I sure did! Here's a bus schedule.
Grampa: Wow, fits right in my pocket.

    • Ruth: I actually had some doubts about moving to Springfield, especially
after that TIME cover story, "America's Worst City."
Marge: You could see our house in that photo!

    • Laura: Are you all right?
Bart's Brain: She's beautiful. Say something clever.
Bart: I fell on my bottom.
      Bart's Brain: D'oh!

    • Hutz: Mrs. Simpson, in your own words, please tell us what happened after you and your husband were ejected from the restaurant.
Marge: We pretty much went straight home.
Hutz: Remember, Mrs. Simpson, you're still under oath.
Marge: We drove around until 3:00 in the morning looking for another open all-you-can-eat seafood restaurant.
Hutz: And when you couldn't find any?
      Marge: (crying) We went fishing!
Hutz: Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, do these sound like the actions of a man who's had ALL he could eat?
Fat Juror: That could have been me!

    • Moe: Ivana Tinkel, Ivana Tinkel! Okay, everyone put down your glasses, Ivana Tinkel!

    • Lionel Hutz: Homer, I don't use the word "hero" very often, but you are the greatest hero in American history.

    • Moe: Uh, Amanda Huggenkiss? Hey, I'm looking for Amanda Huggenkiss! Ah, why can't I find Amanda Huggenkiss?
Barney: Maybe your standards are too high! (bar laughs)
Moe: (To Bart) You little S.O.B.! Why, when I find out who you are, I'm going to shove a sausage down your throat and stick starving dogs in your butt!

  • NOTES (5)

    • This was the first episode written by Conan O'Brien.

    • The all-you-can-eat restaurant sidestory was added to the show after a planned sidestory involving a guest shot by Don Rickles fell through due to miscommunication with the Simpsons staff (someone had told them that Don Rickles wanted to do the show, and he didn't.) There was also another planned sidestory, before the restaurant sidestory, that involved Homer becoming a talented barber, but it was rejected.

    • This episode is the last appearance of Sylvia Winfield. (one of The Simpson's neighbors)

    • First Appearence: Captain Horatio McCallister, Ruth Powers

    • Blackboard Joke: I will not bring sheep to class.
Couch Gag: The couch falls through the floor with family on board.

  • ALLUSIONS (6)

    • Das Boot
The pornographic film, Das Butt, spoofs Wolfgang Peterson's classic film Das Boot, although there really is a pornographic film call Das Butt directed by Casey and Peter O'Brian.

    • Hutz: Mr. Simpson, this is the most blatant case of fraudulent advertising since my suit against the film "The Neverending Story."
A quick and funny reference to the over-hyped 80's film, The Neverending Story.

    • Episode Title: New Kid On The Block
The episode title is taken from the name of the early 90's boy-band, New Kids On The Block.

    • Homer: Hey, Moose! That means you!
The music being played while the moose eats out of the garbage is a parody of the theme from the show Northern Exposure.

    • Miracle On 34th Street
The Sea Captain's lawyer asks to have the amount of shrimp that Homer ate brought into the court. Then several men bring in bags which turn out to have letters to Santa Claus, and one even dumps letters out onto the judge's bench. This whole sequence is straight out of Miracle On 34th Street. The lawyer even tells the men "You want the case of Springfield vs. Kris Kringle, next door."

    • Top Hat
When Laura is teaching Bart to dance, he imagines them in a B&W romantic setting - a clear reference to a Fred Astaire & Ginger Rogers movie Top Hat.
