Lisa meets the Great Raymondo, a legendary magician who takes her under his wing, teaching her his various tricks, including the secret of the Great Milk Can Escape. She becomes a hit at school as well as on stage working alongside him. But when Lisa unwittingly reveals the Milk Can Escape trick to rival magician Cregg Demon, the Great Raymondo fires her, but later forgives her as they try to stop Cregg from performing the secret trick in his own show. One of the best episodes for the season, I thought the storyline was amazing. Not the funniest otherwise, but some of the parts did made me laugh...primarly Homer's appearance (most of the parts he did in this episode). My only problem but taking points off was the magician firing Lisa, but I'm glad they made it up later. Overall, this episode was excellent and probsbly recommonded for those that doesn't like the show anymore. 10/10moreless
  • The best episode in years, reminiscent of the early seasons.

Very simply put this episode delivers on all the old aspects of what made the show great in it's heyday. The jokes and writing worked well together, the main guest star Martin Landau's voice fit the Simpsons world well, and it delivered very much on the emotional content with Raymondo's late wife and the daughter he never had but saw in little Lisa. Also seeing all the crushed to death magician celebrities was great. In fact the only part of this episode I didn't like was the peach song at the very beginning, but all the peach puns that followed were great and made a nice segway for Lisa to meet Raymondo. 'The Great Simpsina' is easily the best episode of the last two seasons, if they make more episodes like this then I will be a very happy fan once again.moreless
  • Lisa by chance makes her way to the home of legendary magician The Great Raymondo. Raymondo soon befriends Lisa and teaches her his best tricks including the death defying Milk Can Escape.moreless

    7.5
Martin Landau gives us echoes of his Academy Award winning performance as Bela Lugosi in Ed Wood with his guest appearance in "The Great Simpsina." This episode is one of the most entertaining the series has had in quite a long time. There are many reasons why this is so. The lighthearted tone, the terrific sight gags and dialogue are two such reasons. The dead on parody of the hilariously vain Chris Angel is fantastic. The episode also ends on the right note with a well written climax featuring a menagerie of magic legends. Make time to see this episode.moreless

Lisa befriends a magician, but things go bad when she accidentally reveals one of the magician's best kept secrets. Now, a rival magician has stolen the trick and plans to make it his own. Will he succeed?

Good episode. A lot of the tricks were fun to see and there were many laughs. The only thing I did not like was the last act, I did however like Penn and Teller and thought all their lines were funny. I also liked Lou's line to Wiggum about 'needing another stomach.' Overall this was a pretty good episode, I thought so anyway. B+ or so as a final grade.moreless
  • Great episode for the most part!

I thought this was a very funny episode and one of the best I've seen in a while. The story was well-written, and it had many funny moments. Homer had some hilarious lines, and I thought the beginning was funny when that kid sang about peaches and Bart and Lisa stuck the peaches in their ears. I also thought the group of bullies throwing Bart at that Chinese festival was hilarious, and the Great Raymondo was a very funny character. Lou's line to Chief Wiggum about needing another stomach was also great, and all the magic tricks Lisa did were cool and fun to watch. The ending credits of this episode even made me laugh! The only part I didn't like was the very ending, which sort of left me scratching my head. Overall, though, my grade for this episode is an A-. Marebear2009, out!

    • Near the end of the episode Cregg Demon mentions he was going "to go back to Canada and run for Parliament". Ironically, when this episode first aired Canadian politicians were in the middle of a federal elections campaign. The writers could also be mocking Canadian Liberal Party Prime Ministerial candidate Michael Ignatieff, who had not lived in Canada for decades before returning in 2005 due to the possibility that he could become the Prime Minister. He is currently running in the 2011 election.
