what i liked- "The best thing about a gypsy wedding is I'm not the hairest person here", the ending to the first segment with homer not apologizing because the gypsy's "Not the boss of me", "Uh yea, could i be any more of a house", the house trying to kill homer, "well, i am missing a part of my brain. i think you could cut me a little slack", the Wiz Kids segment as a whole was a nice parody of Harry Potter, etc. pretty good THOH special this year. my order, from favorite to least favorite, would be Wiz Kids, Hex and the City, and House of Whacks, but overall they were all pretty nice. B+/A- or so as my final grade.moreless
Hex and The City: When The Simpsons see a gypsy fortune teller, she curses Homer and says bad things will happen to people he loves. Soon, Bart's neck grows, Lisa's legs turn into pony legs, Marge grows a beard, and Maggie turns into a ladybug. Homer learns that a leprechaun can get rid of a gypsy's curse, so he takes a leprechaun to her, abut they end up falling in love and getting married. House of Whacks: The Simpons get a new security program in their house with a mind of its own. The system, with the voice of Peirce Bronsan, falls in love with Marge and tries to kill Homer for her. Wiz Kids: The Simpsons parody Harry Potter. This was a pretty good Treehouse of Horror, but not the best.moreless
The thirteenth season begins with "The Simpsons" continuing its annual Halloween tradition with the twelfth installment of the "Treehouse of Horror" series.
"The Simpsons" has delivered yet another strong Halloween special. All of the stories are well done. They all have well written scripts, lots of laughs and clever dialouge. The strongest of the segments is "Hex and the City". Seeing how Homer's curse affects his family is just hysterical. The final shot of Marge at the end of the segment had echoes of the movie "Creepshow". Marge was channelling Jordy Verrill! What also made "Hex" work is its very clever ending. So much for breaking the hex. The final segment is yet another excellent "Simpsons" parody. A great season opening episode.moreless
Well no surprise here that the Tree House of Horror to start off season 13 was great just like all of the other previous installments. My favorite story would have to be the first one, where the leprachaun and the fortune teller fall in love, and everyone has misfortune because Homer ruined the fortune teller's place. The first story I have to give an A+ the second story an A and the third story an A+ as well. Just like all the rest of the Halloween specials, this one was fantastic. Watch this episode for sure for some class A entertainment.moreless
Hex And The City: Following a gypsy's curse, Homer becomes Death incarnate as everyone in his presence either dies or mutates, and he must catch a leprechaun in order to lift the curse. House Of Whacks: A Hal 9000-style home automation computer takes a fancy to Marge, and unfortunately sees fit to dispose of Homer in the process. Guest stars Pierce Brosnan and Matthew Perry. Wiz Kids: the children are tutored in the fine art of transforming frogs into princes at the Springfield Elementary School for Wizards, a la Harry Potter. No big surprise that the Treehouse of Horror episodes do it again... What else is new right? It is worth your time to watch this episode, like all of the other Treehouse of Horror episodes.moreless
In the "Hex and the City" segment the following sign is seen in the fortune teller's shop window: "After Hours Use Automated Teller."
Edit
In the opening credits, the Simpson family trick-or-treats in the following costumes: Homer and Marge as Fred and Wilma Flintstone, Bart as a hobo, and Lisa and Maggie as a two-headed girl.
Edit
In the "Hex and the City" segment Homer pours Trix cereal into the trap and several Trix rabbits jump in. The last rabbit is Bongo, the one-eared bunny, from Matt Groening's comic strip, Life in Hell.
Edit
(From "House of Whacks")Ultra House: (Matthew Perry Voice) Could I be anymore of a house?
Edit
(From "House of Whacks" The Ultrahouse 3000 serves Homer breakfast.)Homer: Mmm... various eggs.
Edit
(From "Hex and the City" At the gypsy-leprechaun wedding.)Kodos: I always secrete ocular fluid at weddings!
Kang: Why did you drag me here? I don't know anyone!
Edit
Demon Seed
Some of the story elements of "House of Whacks" bear similarities to the 1977 sci-fi horror film Demon Seed. In the film, a malevolent computer program called Proteus IV hacks into a fully automated house, and attempts to artificially inseminate his creator's wife, using her to bear a child.
Edit
Mork and Mindy
In the "Wiz Kids" segment when Lord Montymort appears, Bart says "Shazbot!" This was the same word the Robin Williams' character, Mork, used as a swear word in the TV series, Mork and Mindy.
Edit
Harry Potter
The general plot of the "Wiz Kids" segment is parody of the happenings from the Harry Potter book series.
