Lisa: (after finding out that Edmund is a vampire and gasps) You're a vampire! I should be scared, but I'm not!
Edmund: Let us move between the trees the way a bat does-by jumping.
Instead of the usual couch gag, the Halloween special opens with Homer and Bart carving pumpkins. Bart then carves a jack-o-lantern face on the seat of Homer's pants. Homer retaliates by strangling him before Bart puts a jack-o-lantern on Homer's head, which suddenly catches fire. The images zooms out to show Professor Frink viewing their antics on TV, freezing the image on his DVR. He advises viewers to fast forward through anything that's too violent for youngsters watching the annual Halloween special. He uses his remote to speed through further violent Homer and Bart antics, continuing through later parts of the special and promos for Fox series Bones, So You Think You Can Dance, and glee. Fearing he's spoiled the special for everyone, he feels he should no longer have the remote and uses it on himself, aging him to very elderly, and turning into a pile of dust. It eventually blows away, revealing the title, Treehouse of Horror XXI. A Frankenstein's monster picks up the remote and decides to watch a Transylvanian version of The Office in which several monsters take on the roles of the various characters from that series. Its theme music is played and the segment ends with The Simpsons title and credits listed in the same fashion from that series.
Moët et Chandon The bottle of whine that Homer holds in Master and Cadaver is called Moe et Chandon. This is an allusion to Moet et Chandon. A French winery and co-owner of the luxury goods company Moët-Hennessy • Louis Vuitton.
Bart watch Millhouse sink to the bottom of the sea, this is a joke to "Titanic" where Rose watch Jack sink to the bottom of the sea.
Tweenlight is a joke to the novels and movies of "The Twilight Saga".
Edmund: You're tearing me apaaaaaart!
This a reference to the classic 1955 film Rebel Without A Cause, right down to the arm gesture that was used by James Dean. The famous scene has been aped in diverse other films and TV shows.
Snakes and Ladders
The game that Homer is on climbs a ladder then goes down a slide is an allusion to the game Chutes and Ladders.
Board games: The games that Milhouse and Bart look at are as follows along with the actual games that they are parodying. Taffyland - Candyland
Drops and Risers - Chutes and Ladders
Consternation - Concentration
Ravenous Ravenous Rhinos - Hungry Hungry Hippos
Mouse Catch - Mouse Trap
Battleboat - Battleship
Funopoly - Monopoly
Crate of Apes - Barrel of Monkeys
Yahtzu - Yahtzee
Tiddlywonks - Tiddlywinks
"I say it was you that killed him in the parlor with the letter opener."
This quote that Marge says is alluding to the game of Clue where players had to figure out who, where and with what weapon a murder was committed.
Trouble
The board game Satan's Path has the board just like the Hasbro game Trouble with the dice in the middle and you push the middle down and the dice pops.
Monopoly
One of the pieces inside the board game Satan's Path is a thimble. The thimble is a game piece for the Monopoly game.
Jumanji
When Bart and Milhouse play the mysterious board game Satan's Path and the board game opens up and the house shakes and strange things happen. This is like the 1995 movie Jumanji where a boy and his childhood friend begin playing the game and the boy disappears for 25 years and another boy and his sister begin playing the game and they released the kid who started playing the game who is now an adult (played by Robin Williams) and they gotten the girl who is also an adult that also played the game (played by Bonnie Hunt) and all four finish the game. Also, the scene where Marge is and the English speaking fellow are in a living room with a sheet over a dead person. The man is dressed like the villain in Jumanji.
The classic Wilhelm scream sound effect can be heard a few times in the War and Pieces segment, as well as at the Gracie Films closing logo (instead of the standard "Shhh!" or the woman screaming sound heard on most Treehouse of Horror specials).
Board Games
The names of the board games that Bart and Milhouse look over is Taffyland, Drops and Risers, Consternation, Ravernous Ravernous Rhinos, Mouse Catch, Battleboat, Funopoly, Crate Of Apes, Yahtzu, & Tiddlywonks. These are parody names of various board games made by Hasbro, & Milton Bradley.
Young Vampire: You're tearing me apart!
This is a famous line said by James Dean in the 1955 movie Rebel Without A Cause.
A Clockwork Orange
At the end of the second segment, Maggie appears with a bowler hat and makeup on one eye. This is a reference to the 1971 movie A Clockwork Orange, directed by Stanley Kubrick.
