  • Detente goes underground.

    8.8
With mild Orwellian undertones, an under-appreciated adventure sees Steve reuniting with an old pal from the dark side, after those Ruskies chew off more than they can handle, with a pesky earthquake thrown in for good measure. Although criticsed for its slow pacing, and over-reliance on "technological" aesthetics, this story works on character development, and in fairness, was one of the early examples of showing that Russians weren't actually evil megalomaniacs, all the more interesting considering Lee's more traditional conservative views. Tense to the very end, Lee Majors lets the lid off the rising steam and looks the classic 1970s hero with macho sideburns and bulging muscles. Enjoyable and not too self important.moreless
  • Two colonels in the U.S.S.R.

    6.3
Steve Austin meets up with his friend and kosmonaut-collegue Vasili Zhukov. After some cold war comradship and a bit of 70's sexist talk, they rush of to Kamkov Island, just hit by an earthquake.

Vasili's fiance, Irina, is trapped underground together with an atomic bomb, programmed to destroy the whole installation.

We get a lot of Soviet symbols (Red stars, flags, uniforms, even a bunch of Lenin-posters), but by lack of a real story this episode is plainly dull. What should have been a claustrophobic huit-clos, turns in to a lot of running, even crawling along endless corridors.

Zhukov who risks his life to save Irina, gets himself executed in the most stupid way by a security laserbeam, just before Steve stops the nuclear threat... 2 seconds before detonation.

    Stupid indeed.moreless
