A Matter of Time has an intriguing premise- Steve crash-lands from a space mission to test a new type of rocket fuel and apparently finds himself six years in the future; furthermore, he’s told that he’s being arrested for defecting to the Russians during the time he was gone.
Steve displays his usual bionic feats, although his eye doesn’t get any use in this episode, and after a slow first half the show picks up speed in the second. Unfortunately it picks up a little too fast; Steve figures out his predicament rather suddenly, the treason idea is never really followed through, and a laser “scrambler” is used against Steve but never really explained. There are other faults as well; after his bionic abilities are discovered by the baddies, Steve is still placed in easily escapable situations; and the makeup used to make one of the characters look six years older looks pretty cheesy.
That being said, it’s still an interesting show, not one of the best but still worth a look. Also, loved the bit of dated product placement when Steve shows off his watch with the red LED display, something I remember being on everyone’s wish-list at the time.
