At first glance all you get in this episode is silly, sentimental weirdness. But, as Steve does, you have to look beyond the strangeness and accept.

A family of aliens (Yes, it is a story written by D.C. Fontana), crash lands on earth. Probably for butgetary reasons there is no spacecraft to be seen. They wear stolen, mismatched clothes and look unusually plain, except for the golden shine on their face. Let colonel Austin wear Captain Kirk's outfit and change some props : The result would be a missing Star Trek episode.

With his inside knowledge of the space program and the help of Oscar Golman, Steve can send the final survivor, Minonee, on her way home as a stowaway on a NASA flight.

This is a basic story about strangers in a strange land, terrorised and chased by ignorance, only understood by another (bionic) misfit.

Alongside all his enhanced capabilities, Steve shows a real gift for empathy, while Oscar has great trouble chosing between his interests and 'the good thing to do'.

Still, this episode ends on a warm and thought provoking note.moreless
