  • I wandered lonely as a cloud...

    8.8
A curio from Bill Svancoe and Wilton Denmark. Colonel Austin's plane takes an unplanned diversion (wow, *there's* something that never happened before...) to a stereotypical hicksville location, along the way picking up a nasty dose of amnesia. Unfortunately time is not on Steve's side as Oscar explains to an aide that his Bionics are short circuiting and his life may be at risk. As the search for Steve intensifies, he wanders along to his heart's content, like William Wordsworth fused by the benefits of modernity, mixing with some "out of towners" at a rehabillitation centre who don't clued with the local supremacists' master plan. Without any espionage/Sci-fi/romance undertones, the episode could easily fall flat on its tush, although ignoring one or two moments extremely parmesan in nature, this "morality" tale actually turns out to be immensely watchable, essentially thanks to a slight deviation in formula. A tricky one to appreciate at first, so give it a second chance if you don't "get it" first time around.moreless
  • Can't remember much about it...not.

    7.3
After crashing his plane (again!?), Steve Austin gets a lift by Spychologist Angie Walker who runs a rest home for depressed and mentally challenged people.

The starting point of this story is that Steve himself suffers from amnesia due to a bionic malfunction(?). He doen't even know he's a cyborg until a piece of skin is ripped and mechanics in his arm are exposed. (Where is Dr. Rudy Wells???)

The small and parochial community of Broken Fork is convinced he's just another deranged loony. Especially shopkeeper Horace (good performance by Robert Donner) causes him trouble and theathens to harm him and the other patients.

This is not a typical 'Six million dollar man' story. Though it is courageous, from the middle on it falls still and ends up in syrupy morality. I do wonder if this series is the right place to handle such a subject.

The final crowd scenes with those odd out of focus pictures are curious. It is strangely reminescent of those 70's horror and slasher movies.
