  • Interesting, if a tad hamfisted.

    8.6
Having drawn attention to penny pinching from Executive Producers in another review, it seems that even the strongest episodes were somewhat tainted by the skinflint mentality. After all, how many other shows would re-use footage from their own previous episodes (Population Zero, Doomsday And Counting) and offer them as a "secret" demonstration to Madam Pal-Mir of Steve Austin's marvellous abillities? Rant aside, one cannot help but warm to The Pal-Mir Escort, with its finely tuned tension, both in action scenes, and between the characters themselves, with Steve stretched to his limits as he tries to lead the protagonist to the "safety" of a hospital room against the increasingly desperate hoodlum(s) who wish to shuffle her mortal coil a.s.a.p. Even with its slightly Right-Wing leanings, the episode is a winner, another storyline that allows for Steve's guile to triumph over a seemingly in-escapable crisis. Now, where's a hot-headed Prime Minister when you need one...moreless
  • I want to live, I want to give. I've been looking for a heart of Titanium.

    9.6
Anne Revere plays magnificently Salka Pal-Mir, Prime Minister of 'Eretz'. But this power- and forcefull woman (clearly inspired by Golda Meir) has a very weak heart. Literally. That's why she's on Dr. Wells waiting list, to receive a (prototype) bionic replacement.

In order to save Madame Pal-Mir's life and the negociations for peace in her country, Steve Austin escorts her to a clinic in Tennessee.

On the road they discuss various topics like woman in (American) politics!? This very human and emotional start, is a fine build-up to an action packed second half of the episode. Under a very vicious attack, Steve fights for their lifes with well balanced bionic interventions. They both end up on the operating table when Austin donates a part of his own hardware.

Masterly written, 'The Pal-Mir escort' has all the elements that make a strong and unforgettable episode... and succeeds splendidly.moreless
