Although both Athena 1 and Athena Rescue were supposed to be docked at Skylab, the model always showed only one Apollo-style capsule and service module on the Multiple Docking Adapter.
This episode was inspired by the 1969 motion picture, Marooned, about three astronauts stranded in space. Marooned, in turn, was originally a novel by Martin Caidin, who also wrote the novel Cyborg, which was the basis for this series.
Making several extended cameo appearances is Jules Bergman as himself, covering the Athena launches. Bergman was Science Editor for the ABC News division from 1961 until his death in 1987. Although he covered a range of science stories, Bergman always appeared in ABC's coverage of Mercury, Gemini and Apollo missions and was best known because of those appearances.
This episode united Lee Majors with his off-screen wife Farrah Fawcett. The couple were married a year earlier in July of 1973.
