This is a series they did after the divorce. It premiered with much fan fare. The Sonny & Cher comedy hour was such a huge hit variety show that after the couple broke up the show was over. Both tried doing it on there own. CHER had a little more success then Sonny but the drain of doing a series on her own wore thin and CHER agreed to go back to work with Sonny to do a new variety show. Rumors were all over the place as CHER had run off and married rock star Gregg Allman 9 days after her divorce from Sonny. The tabloids had Sonny & Cher getting remarried but those were false. CHER was again working with Sonny but married and preggy with Gregg Allman's baby. Yep, this was CHER's life at the time. The first outing of the new series had loads of guest stars. Sonny & Cher began the show with like the old show but this time the stage had both there names with a hand that had the fingers crossed. No one knew weather it would work or if they would be funny like they were in the Sonny & Cher comedy hour. They were announced and both came out together to an adoring applause and they talked about there mixed up life divorce etc.... It was awkward but naturally funny. Afterward they sang "LOVE WILL KEEP US TOGETHER". That first outing was one of the much watch shows of all time. It is right up there with Who shot JR and the last episode of "MASH". The rating sadly lapsed and the show lasted a couple of years before being canceled. I have NEVER seen that first show together after the divorce on youtube or anywhere else. It was not included in the Sonny & Cher show DVD set. It's to bad because many legendary acts guest started on that premiere show. Lucille Ball, Carol Burnett, Bob Hope and many more....... Everyone wanted to do a cameo on that first show it seemed because the press was having a field day with the re teaming of these two after the messy divorce. The network advertised it heavily. This was way before reality television folks. I wnder why that first show airing is not online anywhere?
