  • Woeful miscasting

Michael Constantine is woefully miscast in this one. He's great in his usual low-key and rather ruefully amused persona, and the first time we see him here, as the genial bartender, he's fine. But then he starts chewing the scenery in lunatic fashion (which does at least lead to a camp classic, the unspeakably goofy "blue trike" scene). Douglas at any rate is very good in this one, trying to maintain a stoic professional face even while he begins to doubt his own account of the proceedings. Unfortunately though, the whole thing goes even further in the toilet at the end, with all that "You never loved me!" junkie blubbering.moreless
