The Strip (2002)

Show Summary

The Strip follows the life of Melissa, a happily married lawyer with a sixteen year old daughter whose life fell into disarray in one day when she discovered her husband, Glenn was having an affair with another man and her daughter Paige was experimenting with bulimia. What to do? Well of course: get rid of the husband, drop the job, move out with the daughter and...buy a strip club! Throughout the show we get to learn all about Melissa, Paige, Glenn, Melissa's kooky mother, Leslie and her wayward friend Kath, not to mention a mysterious stripper Adam, that Mel has her eye on. Other, more minor characters also keep the tempo upbeat and amusing.

  • This series had great possibilities and the humour was subtle but funny.

I have only just found this series on Living in the UK; as usual the problem is that it is shown in the middle of the night!

I thought the series was rather funny - the concept of male strippers going faint (well one goes into a trance actually which he only comes out of because a girl goes topless in front of him!) because they can't do the Full Monty was hilarious - the barman leaving a saucer of milk on the counter because he called them kittycats. Good Antipodean humour! I think that it was a series you had to stick with so that you got to know the characters and appreciated their quirkyness; the mother/daughter relationship with the gay father; mother/best friend; strippers and club owner.

It probably lasted as long as it should but worth a watch if nothing else on the TV! I mean every night can't be Dexter or CSI night can it??moreless
