This is the 2nd time we are given any hints that Estaban may have some sort of a relationship with Carey when he dances with her. The first time was in "Its A Mad, Mad, Mad Hotel"
Esteban said that a girl's 15th birthday party was a big deal in his country, but in Boston Tea Party, he became a citizen of the U.S.
A part of this episode is in the opening credits (of Season 3): when Zack and Cody point and say "Yeah".
During the end credits when everyone is dancing, you can see Moseby glance up and look at the camera for few seconds before going to do his dance.
An in-joke in this episode is that guest star Rip Taylor, who plays Leo the old man in Esteban's dance class, is portrayed as a skirt-chasing feisty old lady killer when in actually Rip Taylor is an openly gay comedian known for his flamboyant style.
Cody (Cole Sprouse) is chewing gum during the end of the dance number.
The ending dance number goes for 55 seconds.
Mrs. Mayweather leads Mr. Moseby when they dance, while it is usually the guy that takes the lead.
Cody's number on his shirt is 104.
Zack's number on his shirt is 105.
When Zack, Cody, Jessica, and Janice are watching London and Lance dancing and counting out the beats, one can see Zack in the background as he picks up the control and starts playing with it.
The ballroom competition is called, "Boston Ballroom Dance Competion".
Production wise this is the first episode that Carey has brunette/brown hair, but the second airing wise.
During the dance number at the end, Zack is chewing gum.
When Zack and Cody are talking in the suite behind Cody there's a stop sign but when they switch places there's no stop sign.
When Zack and Cody are dancing together for the competition, at the end when they finish dancing and in their final positions, when the camera moves, you can see that Cody has his arm a bit lower and is breathing a lot heavier than what he was before in the other shot.
Apparently nearly everyone in Esteban's family has "Este" in their name. Estebanita - Esteban as a woman in "The Suite Smell of Excess", Estecarlata - his sister mentioned here, Grandma Estebina - her voice cure is mentioned in "Smart and Smarterer". His father, who was mentioned in "To Catch a Thief", doesn't.
Zack: That sounded like it hurt.
Janice: Really, really hurt.
Esteban: Good job everyone, now remember to hold your frame.
Mrs. Mayweather: Like This! (Starts to lead.)
Esteban: So, little blonde peoples, to help me help my little sister, (begging) will you please take my ballroom dance class?
Zack: We're into more manly sports.
Cody: Yeah, we're more slam dunks then, grande jeté!
Zack: And some of us are even to manly to say, let alone do, a grande jeté.
Jessica: Actually, I adore ballroom dancing.
Janice: Me too. It's so romantic.
Jessica: Really romantic.
Zack and Cody: (cheerfully turn to Esteban) SIGN US UP!!
Esteban: ...she will be the only girl in my village who will not have a party.
Cody: So why don't you just ask Mr. Moseby for a raise?
(Esteban gives Cody a stare)
Cody: I'm Sorry!!
Esteban: (Walking tiredly) HI guys.
Cody: How are dance classes coming?
Esteban: Oh, I need more students, otherwise I won't have enough money for Estecarlata. She's having he quinceñiera.
Zack: What's that?
Jessica: Zack, your theory of the origin of the universe is fascinating.
Janice: Really fascinating.
Cody: Ok, I can't take this, the theory of the universe is the string theory, not the string cheese theory.
Announcer: And the winning team is the dance school of Esteban Julio Ricardo Montoy- That Guy!
(points to Esteban)
Zack: Jessica, your leading again. Jessica: I'm leading because your hesitating. Zack: Well, I'm hesitating because you keep criticizing me. Jessica: I'm criticizing you because your not doing it right. Zack: I'm not doing it right because you're yelling. Jessica: Your the one who's yelling. (turns away from each other)
Cody: We're more slam dunks (slam dunk action) then grande jeté (grande jeté action)
Zack: And some of us are to manly to say, let alone do, a grande jeté.
Jessica and Janice: Aw
Zack and Cody: Yeah!
Cody: Esteban did you see us? We did great, I mean the lift was awesome. Esteban: Yes, but lifting is illegal! Zack: Well, I'm sure no one noticed. Judges: (overhearing their conversation) We noticed!
(after London fixes Shannon's outfit) Mr. Moseby: (referring to London) And yet, she can't figure out a pay phone.
(after winning the dance competition)
Cody: Esteban, now you have enough money to pay for your little sister's quinceñiera.
Esteban: Oh, yes. And I would like to thank everyone from the heart of my bottom!
Zack: Bottom of my heart.
Esteban: That, too!
Jessica: Ow! You stepped on me again!
Zack: I stepped on you because your foot is not supposed to be there.
Jessica: That's where you lead me!
Zack: Ha! It'd be easier to lead a donkey!
Janice: Who told you to be so rude to my sister?!
Zack: Oh, like it's my fault she pushes me around like a bulldozer.
Jessica: (gasps) I will not be spoken to that way!
Janice: No, we won't!
(Janice & Jessica start to leave)
Cody: Wait, that was a compliment.
Cody: I have no idea.
Esteban: Lori? Where'd she go?
Shannon: Well, she said you were all pathetic losers and left.
(everyone starts protesting)
Leo: What did she say?!
Mrs. Mayweather: You were a pathetic loser.
Esteban: Okay, everyone. Let's go over what dance each couple will be doing. London, Lance, what do you feel comfortable doing?
Esteban: I meant with dance.
Lance: The swim.
London: The shop.
Esteban: The Samba it is.
Mrs. Mayweather: (to Esteban) Why can't I be your partner?!
Leo: 'Cause you're with me now, baby. And we're gonna dance 'till I'm blue in the face.
Mrs. Mayweather: Well, that won't take long. You were out of breath when you walked in the room.
Cody: What's wrong with Janice?
Zack: She's got noodle arms. It's like dancing with spaghetti. I'll never win the junior division with her.
Cody: Then why should I take her?
Zack: 'Cause you'll never win with anyone.
Cody: That is... probably true.
Mr. Moseby: Esteban, good news. I have booked the Boston Ballroom Dance Competition for here at the Tipton. Now, if your school takes first place, you'll get $1,000.
Esteban: Oh, gracias, Mr. Moseby. You booked this to help me pay for my sister's quinceñiera.
Mr. Moseby: No, I just wanted a trophy.
Leo: (coughing) Is this the ballroom dance class?
Esteban: Oh, yes, it is. Are you here to enroll?
Leo: Yes. My doctor told me I needed some exercise, but my nurse Shannon won't let me chase her around the living room anymore. (starts crying) I'll be all right.
(Carey, London, & Lance walk in)
Esteban: What are you all doing here?
Carey: Cody said you were teaching dance and we couldn't wait to learn from the great Esteban.
Esteban: So he told you I was desperate for money and you took pity on me.
Carey: Pretty much.
Esteban: And I'm okay with that.
London: Ooh, sign me up, too! I have a whole closet full of ballroom dancing clothes I finally get to wear, then throw out.
Zack: (as he dances with Janice) That's right, so follow my lead. Only not so close, but keep your arms locked, and loosen your elbows, and don't look at your feet.
Janice: I thought Esteban was supposed to be the teacher.
Zack: Oh, he is, so just pretend you learned all this great stuff from him. Okay? All right.
Cody: (wearing shoes with heels as he dances with Jessica) Hey, Esteban, how's this?
Esteban: Ooh, excellent, fabulous. Except you're dancing like a girl.
Cody: My mom made me wear these dancing shoes!
The German episode title is "Darf ich bitten?", meaning "Shall We Dance?".
If you look at the background dancers, during the Ballroom Competition, one of the dancers is Lacey Schwimmer. She is seen dancing against London and Lance while they dance the samba. Lacey Schwimmer was one of the final four contestants of the tv show 'So You Think You Can Dance' and was part of Dancing with the Stars Season 7 (paired with Lance Bass).
As of now, Dylan Sprouse, Cole Sprouse, Kim Rhodes and Phill Lewis are the only four cast members to appear in every episode so far.
This is the first episode that Carey was sick. The other episode was "Nurse Zack", which is also part of Season 2.
George Clooney is mentioned again by Carey, which she has done in other episodes.
This is the second time that a main star didn't appear. The first one was Brenda Song (London) in "Have a Nice Trip". This time it was Ashley Tisdale (Maddie).
On Dancing With the Stars, Louis van Amstel (Alexander) is the dance partner of Monique Coleman (who recurs on this show as Mary-Margaret).
Apparently, London can't work a payphone.
Carey got sick halfway through this episode after showing signs of it during the practice dancing. In the end credits, however, she then got better, as she and the boys dance in the lobby with everyone else.
Apparently Jessica and Janice have an issue with Zack's rudeness.
Cheryl Burke (Shannon), Louis Van Amstrel (Alexander), and Ashly Del Grosso (Lori) are all from "Dancing With The Stars".
This is the fifth time we see Esteban out of his Tipton uniform. The first time was in It's a Mad Mad Mad Hotel in his fantasy of what he'd be if he found the supposed money treasure (as owner of "Hotel Esteban"). The second time was at the end of French 101. The third was at the end of Moseby's Big Brother when he wore a tuxedo. He was also out of his uniform in the episode Bowling when he was wearing a bowling shirt.
4th appearance of Lance.
This is Lance's first appearance in the second season.
A commercial for this episode tagged this as "The Suite Life of Zack and Cody meets Dancing with the Stars." Incidentally, Monique Coleman, who doesn't appear in this episode but recurrs as Mary-Margaret on this show, is actually competing in Dancing with the Stars.
This episode aired in Canada on August 15, 2006.
Originally supposed to air August 5, 2006.
4th Appearance of Jessica and Janice.
The episode used to be called "Strictly Ballroom" and "Ballroom Dancing", as working titles.
When Esteban meets his competitor Alexander and says, "Alexander" and Alexander replies, "The Great", this is an allusion to the B.C. Macedonian king Alexander III, nicknamed "Alexander the Great", who conquered most of the world known to the ancient Greeks.
Part of Lance's dance sequence in the final competition was an allusion to John Travolta's famous dance in the popular 1977 disco film, Saturday Night Fever.
The episode title is a parody of the film, "Strictly Ballroom." Incidentally, "Strictly Ballroom" was released in 1992, the year Dylan and Cole Sprouse were born.
