  • Terrible

    3.0
Carey is in love with a rich lawyer named Harvey. Zack and Moseby are all for the marriage, but Cody doesn't think Harvey is right for Carey, so he calls his dad. Meanwhile, in volleyball, it is immediately recognized that London plays well if she's angry or insulted. This was a boring episode. I was watching the clock to see when this one would be over. And I thought Maddie and her friends were too greedy for victory. Overall, a bad episode.moreless
  • One of Season 2's best episodes

    9.5
I liked this episode quite a lot. I don't know why some people don't like it. Not every episode can be simply filled with comedy. There have to be moments of surprise and emotion. It was great to have Kurt back but I also liked that Harvey guy. He was very good. London being a good volleyball player when filled with anger was surprising and I felt bad for London at the end. However, I didn't like London's crush in this episode.moreless
  • Wonderful

    10
This is why I watch this show. I love the surprises. This is what makes it the best show on Disney Channel. London really surprised me when she turned out to be a really good volleyball player. And I can't believe Maddie kissed her boyfriend. That made it so much better.
  • This was one of my least favorite episodes and I don't have much to say about this one.

    7.0
This episode was terrible. It was not funny at all and I seriously hated that character Harvey that Carey was dating. He was just annoying. Carey is dating Harvey, Harvey desides that he wants to marry her and Cody doesn't want them to get married so he does everything he can think of to break up Carey and Harvey. And really, this was one of the worst episodes of the series and it is one of my least favorites. I don't think I laughed even once during this episode and that is pretty pathetic. I don't have many good things to say about this terrible episode.moreless
  • funny

    10
Carey finds a lawyer boyfriend and she's getting along with him really well. Cody is finding it really difficult with the idea that his mom will get married. But Zack and their dad Kurt isn't having a problem with it since the lawyer is rich. London is drafted by their class coach to be part of the volleyball team. Their team is not so keen in letting her play. But as their rival team insults her, her rage makes her want to play tough and she helps them beat the other team. This episode is so hilarious, it's so full of jokes, each scene had something very funny in it. I can't stop laughing, this is a really funny episode.moreless

  • TRIVIA (15)

    • When London goes on the court after seeing Maddie and Joe kiss only her, Maddie, Mary-Margaret, and Leslie on there, then the shot changes, and the whole team is there in position.

    • During the volleyball scenes when London jumps and hits the ball, you can tell the shots are animated and some are real. Also, when London jumps to hit, it appears that she's been given a boost to reach the net to make the shot.

    • Look very closely when Mary-Margaret pulls out the lip balm: she pulls it out of her knee-pads.

    • When Mr. Moseby gives Harvey his wallet to go to the jewelry shop, he enters the elevator. The shops are usually on the fist floor of a hotel and the rooms are usually up/downstairs.

    • This is the first kiss between Carey and a different man than Arwin.

    • In all of the gym scenes, you can tell that they were all shot one after another because the hairsyles are all the same.

    • On the other team's uniform you can not see the name of the other team's school like Maddie and London's uniform.

    • Listen VERY closely: In the scene where Harvey proposes to Carey and Zack says he planned a honeymoon in Fiji, Mr. Moseby says that there is a Tipton Hotel in Fiji.

    • Cody seems to have a problem with his mother dating Harvey, but he and Zack didn't seem to have a problem when Arwin wanted to try to win her over as early as The Prince and the Plunger.

    • The place where Maddie and London play volleyball is the same place where Jackson from Hannah Montana, also played volleyball.

    • When Cody is in the vent, wouldn't he hear his dad sneak up behind him?

    • Guest star Mindy Sterling, who plays Sister Rose in this episode, is best known for her portrayal as Frau Farbissina in the Austin Powers movies.

    • David Shatraw( Harvey)and Kim Rhodes(Carey Martin - Zack and Cody's Mom)have previously worked together in Titus. He played Tommy Shafter, Christopher Titus's best friend, and she played the role of the 2nd Tiffany in the episode "Tommy's Girlfriend II".

    • When Maddie is kissing Joe, it doesn't really look like she's kissing him because when she takes him away from her mouth, her mouth looks like it was from his neck and not his lips.

    • When Maddie and London make up at the end of the episode, Maddie has her bag on her shoulder, but then when they're walking out the bag is suddenly left on the bleachers.

  • QUOTES (17)

    • Cody: (to Zack) Whoa, whoa, whoa. Let's grab ahold of reality and take it for a ride, shall we?

    • Sister Rose: Okay, we are gonna stomp these losers right into the ground! Let us pray. Lord, please help us stomp these losers into the ground. Amen.

    • Maddie: You are so lucky. He is such a good kisser.
      (London glares at her)
Maddie: Not that I enjoyed it at all.

    • Cody: It's not my fault our fridge is the size of R2D2!

    • Kurt: Cody, I got your call! What's the emergency and who's hurt?
      Cody: It's Mom!
      Kurt: What's wrong with her?
Cody: She's getting serious about this guy and I need you to stop it.
Kurt: That's the emergency? I took a bus, two planes and a roller coaster to get here.
      Zack: Roller coaster?
Kurt: Well, there was a layover and the airport was near an amusement park. Two loops, upside down, then it goes backwards! WHOO!!! I am still dizzy, huh?!?

    • Cody: You guys are missing the point.
Kurt: Cody, relax. I know your mom. Trust me. There is no chemistry between her and Harvey. (Opens the door and sees them kissing. Then Cody gives him a look) Oh, like you're always right.

    • Cody: I don't think Harvey's right for Mom. And you're just happy because he's rich.
Zack (exasperatedly chuckles): Ta, ta, no! I-I-I think he's a kind, caring man (speaks faster to Maddie) who-who happens to have a mansion with 5 bathrooms. (Back to Cody) We could all go at once, and still have one toilet left over!

    • Harvey: No, I never work on the weekends. That's when I take the yacht out.
Zack: Yacht? I-i-i-i-is that like a really large boat. How many bathrooms?
Kurt: You know, I spent a weekend on a yacht once. 'Til the owner came by and chased me off.
Harvey: That was you? (Both laugh)
Carey (nervously chuckling and speaking rapidly): You know, it's funny. You know at first I was worried that having my ex-husband, my current boyfriend in a room together would make me nervous, but I feel just fine!
Cody: How's that rash that broke out during dessert?
      Carey: The ointment helped. Thanks!

    • (in the air vent)
Cody: Fine. Let's get out of here. Besides, it kinda stinks.
      Kurt: Sorry.

    • Cody: Dad, focus. This guy is all wrong for Mom. He's a lawyer named Harvey.
Kurt: A Lawyer? Wow, I always thought Mom would end up with the artistic type, you know, funny, free-spirited, incredibly handsome. Heh, heh. Like me.
Zack: Oh, yeah, 'cause that worked out so well the first time.

    • Mr. Moseby: (carrying flowers) Am I too late? Did she say yes?
Harvey: I haven't asked her yet.
      Mr. Moseby: Why not?
Harvey: Because I put the ring on a breadstick and she won't have a breadstick.
Mr. Moseby: You're not marrying the breadstick, you're marrying her!

    • Kurt: Look, Cody, I know you're having a tough time with this, all right, but stealing the ring isn't going stop mom from marrying Harvey if she wants to.
Cody: I'm telling you Harvey is not the right guy for mom.
      Kurt: Why?
Cody: Because he's... Well, you know, he's... You know...
Kurt: You got a point there.

    • (after winning the volley ball game)
      Mary-Margaret: London, you did it!
Sister Rose: London, it was miraculous. What has gotten into you?
London: You can make me fly coach, you can make me eat day-old lobster, but call me dumb and you'll feel my rash!
      Maddie: You mean wrath.
      London: That, too!

    • St. Sylvia's Player: So, you're London Tipton?
London: Why, yes, I am. No pictures, please.
St. Sylvia's Player: No problem. I just always wanted to meet the dumbest heiress in Boston.
(audience can be heard ooooohing; long pause)
      London: (angrily)What'd you say?
St. Sylvia's Player: (talks slower) Was I speaking too fast?
(St. Sylvia's team serves the ball; London spikes it into the ground in a fit of rage, nearly nailing the St. Sylvia's player)
London: (talks slowly) Did I hit it too hard?

    • Maddie: This is Harvey. He's dating Carey.
Mr. Moseby: Splendid! Oh, Harvey, do I hear wedding bells on the horizon?
      Harvey: Well, actually...
Mr. Moseby: Oh, how I will miss those little tykes. You are planning on taking them away, because I can't miss them if they're still here!
Harvey: Let's not jump to conclusions.
Mr. Moseby: Why not? Jumping is fun! (starts jumping up and down) Yes, jump with me, Harvey. Jump.
Harvey: I would, but I don't want to look foolish.
Mr. Moseby: (stops jumping) Of course not.
      (Harvey leaves)
Mr. Moseby: Oh, I think I frightened him.
Maddie: Actually, sir, you frightened all of us.
      Mr. Moseby: Good.

    • Mary-Margaret: Oh, no. Please tell me London doesn't want to be on our team!
Leslie: London doesn't want to be on our team.
      Mary-Margaret: Really?
Leslie: I have no idea. I just like people to be happy.
Sister Rose: Good news! London is joining our volley ball team.
Maddie: I must have missed the good news part.

    • Zack: Carey Marie Martin, do you know what time it is?
Cody: I believe we agreed that you'd be home by 11.
Harvey: (to Carey) Boy, your parents are strict.
Carey: Yeah, well, I believe we also agreed that you'd be in bed by 10.
Cody: Who could sleep with the worrying?
      Harvey: My bad, guys. Sorry.
Cody: Just see that it doesn't happen again.
      Zack: We're watching you.
Carey: (to Harvey) So am I.
      Zack: Okay, gross.

  • NOTES (30)

    • The German episode title is "London, der Volleyball-Star", meaning "London, The Volleyball Star".

    • Harvey asks Carey to marry him and she says no. This first time she has a very very serious boyfriend.

    • This episode aired in Canada on Family Channel on April 6, 2007.

    • Robert Torti (Kurt) looks the same as he did in Sabrina the Teenage Witch in the episode "The Gift of Gab".

    • In this episode, we see that Maddie sits at a stool when working at the candy counter, which was never seen in previous episodes.

    • When London scores points for their team, they are all from smashes from up close to the net.

    • This is the first episode in which a nun doesn't allow London to get away with something. Usually, Sister Dominick blames Maddie for everything London does and only sees the good in London. But in this episode, when London hits Maddie with the volleyball and cries to Sister Rose that Maddie got in her way, Sister Rose gets frustrated with London.

    • Brenda Song ("London") does not appear in any scenes which take place at the Tipton Hotel in this episode, as all her scenes take place in the gym at her school, although Ashley Tisdale (Maddie) does appear in scenes at both the Tipton and her school.

    • This is the second episode where Maddie goes so low that she hurts London feelings.

    • This is the first episode that Carey's hair is brunette/brown. With the exception of "Birdman of Boston" her hair is this color for the remainder of the series. The reason why her hair is blonde again in "Birdman of Boston", is because production wise it comes before this episode.

    • The engagement ring Harvey was going to give Carey gets stuck on Moseby's finger.

    • Apparently, Maddie plays on the volleyball team at her school.

    • 3rd physical appearance of Kurt, their father.

    • Kurt has shorter hair in this episode.

    • This is a rare episode in which Cody plans a scheme (when he tries to swipe Harvey's engagement ring with a fishing rod) without Zack.

    • Zack has a thing for bathrooms.

    • Monique Coleman makes another appearance in this episode as Mary-Margaret.

    • Sister Rose is Maddie and London's volleyball coach.

    • We learn that Zack and Cody are strict when it comes to punctuality.

    • We learn that Carey and Harvey have been dating for a month.

    • It's revealed that Carey's middle name is Marie.

    • Cody doesn't want Carey to marry Harvey because he fears that since Harvey's so rich he'll steal Carey away from the boys; Mr. Moseby wants Carey to marry Harvey so he can be rid of the boys; Zack wants Carey to marry Harvey so he can live the rich, expensive Suite Life. Kurt doesn't mind Carey marrying Harvey because he got a sweet record deal and he wants her to be happy.

    • When Cody and Kurt are in the vent Cody says it stinks, with Kurt saying "Sorry". The same situation occurred in Grounded on the 23rd Floor when London was in the vent with Zack (who replied the same way), as did Maddie with Cody.

    • Cody is the only one upset that Carey has a new man.

    • London didn't know xoxo meant hugs and kisses.

    • This is the first time London gets mad for being called dumb.

    • Fourth time Maddie kisses a guy on the show. First was "Maddie Checks In;" second was in "It's a Mad Mad Mad Hotel" (in Maddie's fantasy), the third was in "Odd Couples".

    • This is the third show to have an episode with volleyball in it; the first was That's So Raven, episode "Saving Psychic Raven;" the second was Hannah Montana, episode "Grandmas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Favorites."

    • This is the fourth time someone from High School Musical guest stars. First was Monique Coleman playing "Mary-Margaret", second was Zac Efron playing "Trevor", third was Vanessa Anne Hudgens playing "Corrie", and now it's Kaycee Stroh playing "Leslie".

    • Zack and Cody's Dad (Robert Torti) will appear in this episode. His first on screen appearance was in "Dad's Back", then in "Christmas at the Tipton".

  • ALLUSIONS (5)

    • The subplot with Maddie and London may be a homage to the film Bend it Like Beckham. In this movie, the main character's Jess and Jules like the same guy (Who is also named Joe) and play on a sports team (Jess and Jules play on a soccer team). Also, a supposed "kiss" between Jess and Joe breaks up the friendship between Jules and Jess, just like Maddie kissing this Joe makes London angry.

    • Character Name: Carey Marie Martin
Carey's middle name is revealed to be Marie. This may be a reference to country singer Carrie Marie Underwood. Coincidentally, they are both singers.

    • When Cody says the line," It's not my fault our fridge is the size of R2-D2!" this is a direct allusion to the tiny robot character of R2-D2 in the Star Wars film series.

    • The way Maddie corrected London after the volley ball game was like in Xiaolin Showdown when the other Xiaolin Warriors correct Omi after saying something incorrectly.

    • Harvey being a lawyer might be a reference to Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law, where Harvey Birdman is now a lawyer on [adult swim].
