Episode Summary

EDIT
Plumbers Academy Mario loses his golden plunger after a battle with Koopa. He tells Princess & Toad that this was a special plunger because it was given to him by the President of the United States. In pre-show flashback mode, Mario tells how he and Luigi became plumbers, and how they had to put up with their overly strict boss, Sgt. Kooperman (who sounds a lot like Koopa). Kooperman ended up flunking the Marios, who soon found themselves facing their biggest plumbing challenge ever.

Glasnuts After getting a phone call from the U.S. President, the Marios find themselves giving Russian Premier Mikhail Gorbachev a lesson on how to make pizza.moreless

  • Mario loses his prized Golden Plunger, and Toadstool and Toad doesn't know why he's so disapointed, I mean it's only a plunger. After hearing this Mario tells them the story of Mario and Luigi in the Plumbers Academy.moreless

This was a very good episode of the series. Not only did it give you a little more background on the Mario Bros., but it also shares some funny scenes, like how one the instructor's voice is done exactly like King Koopa's. It also showed a little bit more of what Brooklyn looks like in the Mario series rather in real life or what you see on the live action segments, even though the Mario Brothers never leave thier house. This episode was very well planned and deserves a good rating as well as a recomendation to be seen. Now this isn't the best episode in the series but it's worth a look at, especially if you want to see a bit of Mario and Luigi's past.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (5)

    • Mario's golden plunger is miscolored maroon like a normal plunger in two shots. The first time is near the start, when he throws it at Koopa. The second time is in the very last shot of the episode.

    • The pipe structure Kooperman traps the Marios in is completely illogical. It fills up with water, even though there are huge, visible gaps between the pipes in some shots.

    • When Kooperman is in the lady's kitchen, his clothes are green in one shot.

    • The flags on the presidential limo are supposed to be the flags of America and Russia, but in one shot, they look completely screwed up, with one of the flags looking like Japan's.

    • For some reason, the title screen of this episode is mispelled as "PLUMMERS ACADEMY".

  • QUOTES (2)

  • NOTES (11)

    • We finally learn how the Mario Bros. became plumbers.

    • Going by the order Yahooligans aired the episodes, this episode marked the first time an episode of SMBSS had not been one of the four featured cartoons on Yahooligans for the week.

    • Minions that appear: Troopa and Mouser.

    • The title of this episode is based off of Police Academy.

    • This may be the only episode in the entire series where the cartoon and live action segment have similarities. In this case, it's the references to George Bush Sr. and Mikhail Gorbachev.

    • Salvador Drainotto, the plumber from Brooklyn Bound, founded the academy.

    • Yahooligans air date: January 3, 2005

    • The presidents bear a huge resemblance to George Bush Sr. and Mikhail Gorbachev.

    • This episode's Plumber's Log entry: #2-18

    • Featured song: Workin' For a Livin' (Huey Lewis and the News). This song was later replaced by an instrumental version of the song "When the Kooopas Paint the Town" from the SMB3 episode True Colors.

    • In Mario's flashback, there are two plumbers at the academy who vaguely resemble Wario and Waluigi from the later games. Here are two screenshots of the plumber who resembles Wario. The other plumber sort of resembles Waluigi, but not a whole lot.
Unless that was his original outfit, that one plumber's probably not Wario. After the first Super Mario Bros., Mario and Luigi had their permanent outfits (Blue overalls, and each char's respective shirt and cap). Wario's outfit has pink overalls, a yellow shirt and cap, but in that screen, the colors are reversed.
